I've met him before. He really is a nice guy, and an awesome teacher/Sensei.

Lol. At 3:25 sensei knows taller guy will follow with osoto gari even before taller guy himself knows.

Beautiful technique. I love watching Japanese Randori, it's not over the top - all about technique.

I’ve gone with Shimoyama Sensei also. He has a great Uki Goshi. A wonderful teacher.

Looked a bit more like Harai Goshi I think? There seemed to be more hip involvement? I've not been doing judo long though so more than happy to be corrected.

@@ghostman5933 it is more mix of uchi mata and hane goshi. But primairly uchi mata. Great throw though!

I love the fact he casually looked around before doing the perfect throw.

Could someone please describe to me the overall way that randori is managed at the Kodokan? Clips like this one give me the impression that these sessions are quite lengthy and uninterrupted, but I’d love to hear someone’s firsthand account.

Hi Jesse, first let me describe roughly how you get there and then how it works. You can get a daily, weekly or monthly training pass. Either in the evening when you are going to dojo or in the international office. You go then upstairs and first bow before entering the hall. The etiquette is very important. You will see a bunch of people on the Parkett stretching and you should do that as well. In some corners, beginners train, in some other seniors. You will figure it when you are there. Then Uschi Komi starts. You can either ask someone or someone comes to you and asks. No worries. After you are warm, you may be asked to do randori. It takes as long as you wish but not longer than 5 min. It is free training and not a teaching session. So you can do 10 randori one after another or just 1 randori for a minute. Please keep in mind to be polite, keep the etiquette, dont use force but try technique and you will enjoy it a lot. Tatami is very comfortable to fall on. Let me know if you want to know more, I have been every year but this year, there for training and learning

It is so hard to move that guy. You just can't get him off balance.

I reckon Judo that's effective in practice ,is also about awareness, both of the person your'e doing judo with, but primarily yourself. It's only a halfway destination if everything is based on moral etiquette and everything is in it's right line's.
