We deducted more in out of town expenses due to his career as a locomotive engineer - the standard deduction couldn’t begin to touch that or my surgeries and out of pocket medical bills + additional expenses. We didn’t even have dependents or our own properties then. My father made certain each of his children understood how to fill out our own tax returns. He still does his own, usually itemizes as an independent contractor to help pay for his life’s extras and he’s > 90 years old.

So true after my divorce I couldn't get a loan from the bank even tho I paid half of the loans under ME and my husband's name. That was my credit too not just his. I then lived with my boyfriend and we both took out life insurance on the other so that we would be ok if something happened. He passed away in December I got an insurance check of 10,000 to get me a place and start again. Use your heads ladies. Good job Christine. I think people forget she is high up in polygamy and knows the pit falls and how to maneuver thru situations. Kody on the other hand knew nothing about it except his dad got in it late in life. Christine must have been clicking her heals when Kody came off her mortgage. Christine has now got what Kody was trying to achieve and that must hurt. I also think that Kody and Robyn have been buying art and other collectibles because these are easily removed and hidden away should they become bankrupt again. Could that be the real reason they didn’t want the cameras in their house? They wouldn’t want any evidence to show what they had bought. They will know that having money in the bank can be frozen should they be unable to pay off their debts or the other wives make a claim for child support.

Yes filing bankruptcy you have to list all assets, jewelry, artwork, anything of monetary value. Even clothing. Jody’s watches he and Sobyn have matching Rolexes. If he leaves anything out or off that list that’s bankruptcy fraud and you can go to prison for that.

I agree, Janelle was more on top things w/ the family’s financial situation however, she wasn’t smart or on top of things when it came to Kody & her heart. Janelle is also very codependent (“where do I end & you begin”) in her relationship w/ Kody. Despite appearing as the strongest, most independent, & most financially responsible of the wives, with matters of the heart, Janelle wasn’t fully leading w/ her brain & she was so naive when it came to Coyote Pass. It used to shock me how easily Janelle could be manipulated when it was something Kody wanted/needed & had a plan for that would benefit him. She made some really basic & stupid decisions involving the AZ move. It was obvious for the viewers to see her give the proceeds from her NV home to of all people, Robyn (& Kody), & end up w/ a rental in AZ while Kristine & Robyn bought their homes, & Meri had the B & B. How did that not alarm Janelle as a red flag? Likely because Kody can always sucker her in w/ a bit of persistence & sweet talk. when it’s just the two of them. Then, Janelle had to move out of her rental & Kody refused to help her buy a home or to start building on Coyote Pass. For so long, I think Janelle really believed that Kody viewed building on CP as a top priority & that blinded her from realizing she had put herself in a financial hole. Janelle used the last savings she had - the little bit of equity $ from her NV house sale w/ most of it having already gone to Robyn & Kody’s huge house - to buy a $100K RV that needed a lot of work, thinking building would start very soon on her Coyote Pass house. That turned out to be a dumb purchase. The dream of that house on Coyote Pass was her North Star, yet she ended up w/ nothing really. Expectations can get people in a bad place, as do the resentments that always follow when expectations are left unfulfilled.

Her RV did cost 100 thousand and to me thats a chunk of change. It is sad she believed Kody was her best friend maybe at one time he was. In one of the episodes I remember Janelle telling Christine that she must make sure she is financially independent of Kody. I also remember Janelle warning the others that the Vegas homes would not sell right away. Janelle really guided Christine to leave with what was rightfully hers! Rob em never gave a thing to any of them except debt. Kody and Rob em deserve each other.

Thank God someone had brains bc I'm still reeling that Janelle gave money towards Robyn's home. I'm so glad Christine didn't give her relationship with Kody a thought after he publicly humiliated her. She may not have immediately left but she was making a plan and her head was "Out".

I definitely think she played the long game. She was so pumped up about buying the land, and I have to imagine she could see every move as she prepared to leave. Maybe she has someone close to her who is savvy about all of these things and helped her plan. It's so obvious why this felt like a knife in the kidneys. He was completely outwitted and there's now even more joy in Christine getting free of him.

I always found it strange that they film at Robin’s little side patio when there is a huge deck and side yard. They don’t want you to see how large the house really is, when you see it from the top it looks like a 1 story ranch house, but it’s over 4300 sq ft and valued at 1.4 million.

I hope someone from IRS is watching this video. It goes to show why Cody was so angry when Christine left. It was the smartest thing she ever did.His finances sound like a real mess. He probably kept buying the paintings, jewelery and stuff to make himself look cash poor. It's a shame about Janelle but she has no primary residence so she's safe from the Coyote Pass and other problems Cody has mixed with Mary and especially Robyn.

I don’t think the IRS was the problem. I think he wasn’t able to qualify for Robyn’s mortgage as long as he was already on Christine mortgage. I bet Kody removing himself from Christine’s mortgage was the only way the bank would qualify he and Robyn on the mansion, and it makes perfect sense to me that he would do ANYTHING (even as stupid as this) that would enable them to get Robyn’s mansion. Once removed, Christine saw her “out” and jumped on it. That just makes better sense to me than an issue with primary residence. But it def could have both.

Well, that would make Sister Wives very interesting if Kody had to fight the tax man and then ended up in prison! I think a lot of people would tune in for that. It was a stroke of luck for Christine when Kody signed away his rights to her home. She had been thinking of leaving for a long time and that was almost a "sign" that she should do it. Janelle did not have plans to leave and that is why she had not prepared. Kody changed the terms of their relationship suddenly on her making it necessary to leave or become a docile wife. That is why she walked away with pretty much nothing. Oh, and Kody WILL go after Garrison's money because he needs it.
