This is a 2 Year review of Kogans Portable Reverse Cycle Air Conditioner 14,000 BTU unit. Sorry for the wobbly camera and sometimes erratic speaking, I had a Red Bull so had a fair bit of energy - should of used my DJI Osmo Mobile stabilizer instead of just my DSLR oh well, the content is all here.

Just on this have you after 2 years of use and it would be longer now if you still have it , have you cleaned the filters ? This is a must to have it run effectively ........ Aslo not sure if you are aware of this but running the aircon on the coldest setting doesn't mean colder air coming out of it , it just means it will work harder trying to get it down to 17 degrees and might not even get there ....... 23 degrees is probably better to give it a chance to cool down then be able to stop the compressor , less electricity ........ Anyway good reviews on this 👍

Bought one recently and setup today. Running at 24C, it's loud but I'm cool, had to make a custom sliding door exhaust setup with some ply worked a treat. Will replace plastic exhaust ducting with a foil insulated ducting soon. (32C today with hot west/nw winds)

Great to hear, love the DIY would of been a decent video. Its hot up here in QLD at the moment as well so mine is getting a work out. I recently cleaned the dust filters, definitely recommend doing it every few weeks or so, especially in the dry climates.

Really nice review. I’m thinking about buying one now. But I’m not sure. I’m guessing as this moved forward, they’ve improved. Well you’d hope so.

Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it. I suspect as well that the newer models have improved, mainly around sound and power is the main areas that catch people. Good luck.

thanks for the follow up review - have you used it for heating and how have you found it in this mode? Thanks

Hey Tony, sorry for the delay. Yes heating is fine. I got it for both purposes. In rural QLD it can get damn hot but also pretty cold at night and this little unit does a decent job. A lot of the time I have to shut it off as it makes the room too warm.

Have you ever had to drain the unit? I'm hearing with mine that when it starts up there is some water inside? I think I need to drain mine

I just bought one for a small cabin in my property in Qld and I can tell you if the outside temp goes above 32 degrees ( nearly every day in summer) it struggles to even cool a 4mx4m room which has ample wall and roof insulation. 4.1kw 🤣 maybe 1.5kw. Don’t expect it to cool anything larger than a small room on a sub 30 day. Will be selling mine as soon as I get the splits installed. Disappointed ☹️ Good review though 👍

Thanks for the comment! I'm in a similar boat - on a scorching high 38deg day in QLD I find cooling is great when its on, sitting at 18-22 degs Full fan, if I then turn it off then the little room I'm in heats up relatively quickly to well back over the 29 - 32 mark - but on lower 32 deg days for me anyway I can get the room down to a relative 27 degs once its off, which sounds hot to some but isn't too bad, only now and again do I need to flick it on for a quick blast of cool air. If I had the option I'd probably go for a split unit, they tend to pump out / circulate more air compared to a portable unit. Good luck anyway!

Also just wondering, does your model connect to your Wi-Fi network? Because that something that is apparently advertised on the new version. That you can connect to Wi-Fi and use a app on your phone to control it as well as using the remote Control or buttons on the unit.

Howdy, unfortunately can't say which is the best one as that depends on so many factors but I can say the model I have is great for cooling and heating and it works a treat, there are so many more models out there now since I purchased my unit so probably more effienct units, smarter ones, better engineered etc.

Where I live now is less humid, so I rarely have to empty it - I run it about 4-8hrs a day on 19degs at the moment mid to full fan.

How the heck do you get this to connect to the 2.4ghz wifi on a Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2?.... I'm guessing the wifi meshing between the 2.4ghz and 5ghz is the problem, but I have nfi how to rectify it. Model: KAPRA14WFGA ~ Slightly older than the one in this vid I believe. ~

@@mythisthat3739 Put short, it uses outside air to cool the condenser, rather than A/C'd room air. Cont. - it then pushes this air (that was just cooled) outside ... creating a vacuum in the room, in which case air (usually warm) is drawn into the room (under the door normally) So recirculated air conditioning can basically never happen. Have a google around for two/2 hose mod portable A/C Or better yet, check this guy out. Alot better explained than I can do kzbin.info/www/bejne/lV7Qc5iPeJd-fcU&ab_channel=TechnologyConnections

FYI there is no coldest setting on an airconditioner. All the temperature gauge does is say "Keep refridgerated cooling going until you reach this temperature then switch off to normal fan or off all together" setting a aircon or even a heater to a higher or lower temperature does not make it cool any quicker.

Please don't trust this review of this air conditioner - I bought one from Facebook Marketplace because of this review and it is next to useless. As a fan blowing cold air it's great but don't expect it to cool a room. I have a 2.4mx2.4m bedroom (TINY) and it can't even do that very well. God forbid I put it in my lounge! AWFUL.

Like both videos...Very informative...But at the risk of sounding like a smarty pants...It's called the Refrigerant Compressor that kicks in...Not the Condenser...cheers.
