Very enjoyable video Harry. I got these pastels about six months ago, and made a bit of a mess with them. You've made me realise I was probably using the wrong paper. I'll get them out and try again, you've inspired me. Love watching your talent, you look to be going from strength to strength. More videos like these please, fantastic work!!

Oh wow this is stunning, so beautifully blended, the colours are so defined and bright and the hummingbird crisp love this. I tried some pastels a few months ago and ended up with a dusty, muddy mess, that sort of disapeared after a few days as i didnt set it lol. Maybe I should invest in better quality. I think I prefer pencils and watercolour but really want to be able to blend like this; maybe Ill give it another go. Id love to see more pastel pieces and any tips you have.

Harry this is gorgeous it is so lovely to see you use a different medium, I was given the Rembrandt soft pastels for my birthday and it has been fun using the. Inspired by a young Russian artist on you tube sheshina ekaterina I started using the 1000 grit sandpaper it is so inexpensive @nd so much cheaper than something like pastelmat which is way out of my price range, it is lovely to use too. But what you have done is fabulous 👍

Margaret Brownhill thank you so much Margaret for you lovely comment. I haven’t tried the Rembrandt pastels but I will definitely be getting a set to review I have heard good things about them. Also I’ll have to try the paper you are talking about the Pastelmat is nice but it is expensive. Thank you so much Margaret as always.

Unfortunately the problem with regular sandpaper is that it's not acid free and so it can get ruined with time. It is certainly good to learn, for practice.

The Art Gear Guide someone has said that the sandpaper isn’t acid free and therefore over time the paintings will degrade, perhaps that’s true but most of us aren’t looking to sell their work or even making heirlooms of it. Like you I’m using art to help me with clinical depression, some people like what I do and I give it to them! I think I got about 10 sheets of this very fine sandpaper off eBay fro about £5/£6, so cheap thst you are not afraid of practicing and experimenting. A lot of what I do walks out of the house lol, the only medium I can truly afford is my graphite supplies the other mediums come from presents from family and they are supportive because they see the positive effect art has had on me, if I thought for one moment I had to sell things in order to support this it would terrify me and I would freeze up lol

I certainly didn't mean it in a bad way. Since this is a channel for artists and for future or potential artists, I thought it was a helpful information, something that is good to know. I also added that it's a good paper for practice.

UltramarineBlu sorry I wasn’t having a go at you far from it, I think you made a very valid point and I wouldn’t want to upset you far from it, I was just expressing how it is for me, if I ever was asked to do something as a commission, and thst isn’t going to happen lol I would certainly use the best materials for a client making sure it was acid free etc. Indeed for coloured pencils etc I use only lightfast as I do do work for other people who want to keep it, I never charge though lol. Please accept my apologies if in any way I offended you. My venture into pastel work is so new and unpredictable thst the pastelmat pad I was given with the pastels is still unopened because I know how expensive it is. When I saw katyas work I thought what a good idea, she is so good doing landscapes which is my thing, I have no idea if she sells her work but I would imagine if she does she too uses good surfaces, she seems so particular in all respects. But for me it is making it possible to explore something that because of the expense I would be afraid to try, I thought thst idea might help others which is why I said it
