for everyone that can’t find the recipe: - 2 teaspoons of Agar Agar - 120g Water (i added 6 teaspoons instant kiwi iced tea powder to it, for taste and color, of course optional) - 200g Sugar - food coloring is as well optional - optional some lemon juice, I eyeball the amount from here on you can follow Emmy's recipe

T LK You GO girl! My oldest grandson is in college now. He pushed himself thru one whole year of excruciating cramming to graduate high school and hold down a job. His Brazilian girlfriend kept the reins tight lol! They are together at school now. The reason I am so tickled? And I root for YOU a fellow Emmy lover? My gson was expelled from KINDERGARTEN. This is the struggle we all went thru for the next 11yrs. He was sent for the last year to a school for kids who needed one on one from non-related helpers etc. All in one year he not only did what he did but he actually had good enough grades to get into college! Now his bro is in similiar trouble. I hope where he goes will help him. They were both ADHD but the younger boy is also on the autism spectrum. My granddaughter is an honors student. For years now. Plays in orchestra and sings. I hope she will be ok in that big old crappy school by herself is all. Anyway sorry I wrote a book. Just wanted to encourage.😻🎓👍✌

I love making candies and I had to try this, so now I have a batch that’s been drying out for 2 days so far. I added bubblegum flavouring and a sprinkle of citric acid to the mixture just before pouring it into a dish. The outer layer hasn’t completely crystallised yet as it is still a bit early, but I have tasted one and I’m pretty happy with how they’re coming along. I think they’ll end up similar in taste/texture to jelly beans.

Fun video! Can’t wait to make some w my niece. As a microbiologist, I have this compulsion to share that we don’t grow virus’s on Petri dishes. Viruses are grown in cell culture as they are not alive and need a host cell to operate. Agar agar is used in solid playing mediums for BACTERIA. To the plain agar agar a whole host of carbon sources, and other additives are added for growth and identification based on chemical reactions.

emmymadeinjapan I have already fresh mint, white rum and grated lime zest on my imaginary grocery shopping list, for a Mojito gem stone. Or this recently popular peppermint schnapps. Or just some mixed up cool aid flavours. So many options to try out !

Me (No, not Ashildr, I had the name before Doctor Who, and I'm not changing it!) It's one of the German words Emmy uses regularly. So I just went with it ;)

Wow! My country has those crunchy jelly thing served during eid mubarak alongside other cookies and snacks. They're a traditional snack so we can't find them very often. They're usually cut so they look like a fat crinkle-cut french fries. The traditional flavor is rose but people make them in different flavors as well. I loved how yours turned out! So pretty! 🌼

I think adding some extract flavoring would be a great addition. Perhaps match the flavor with the colors (i.e. strawberry extract for red)

Just agar agar will not be enough, depending on what kind of bacteria you want to see grow on your plate, you will have to add certain nutrients. Agar is simply used as a base for culture media because most bacteria can't metabolise it, which makes observation of colony morphology and isolation of single colonies much easier. If you use e.g. gelatin, many bacteria will metabolise that and liquify your plate. I am sure you can look up some recipes for homemade media. Just be aware that there are potentially pathogens in samples you take e.g. from your skin :). And since you won't be working under sterile conditions, prepare for some nice molds to make an appearance on your agar plate :D. Sorry for all the rambling, biology nerd out😅

I went to a wedding this week and there were a lot of these! Not the japanese konpeito. The chocolate covered ones. They're chocolate covered almonds, with a thin crust on the outside (like M&Ms), really colorful and sweet. There were some with dark chocolate instead of almond as well, very similar to chocolate rocks.

In my country, Malaysia, there are similar traditional sweets just like these called, 'halwa'. 'Halwa' usually comes in just one solid colour like red or orange. The most common ones are red, flavoured with rose extract. I once tasted the ones that are flavoured using 'fruit' extracts and it tasted just like gummies! I used to make it when it's school holiday because it is so easy and fun to make! Very sweet though got to be careful. I need to make these someday! It looks really cute. Thanks for the recipe and amazing video!
