For the fourth wall effects, it would be really neat if you could incorporate them into official play mats à la the duel kingdom arc dual fields and how those environments influence the game. Like the forest or the ocean side and so on. You could get official play mat with certain types of environments on them that influenced the board as a whole, basically turning your battlefield into a forest or an ocean or space or darkness and so on. That would be a really really cool way to implement field type zones into the game itself

Honestly, it's also just the TCG monetization scheme at work. The way TCG's have traditionally been sold and marketed have always been ripe for this kind of market manipulation it's just that now we see it happen super fast. Not to slight MetaZoo though, it's very reasonable that they did it this way given that it's a hard prececence in the genre at this point, but it's just the unfortunate side of it if you want this to be a game first. Digimon in comparison actively leans hard on exploiting this kind of thing, which is why you find that all of their chase cards are super expensive.

@@iannations2543 Well, with how WotC is handling the game with printing cards that have become problems in the recent years, combined with the rise of indie projects like MetaZoo may cause Magic to take a hard look at how to fix the game. You also got to look at the recent cash grab in certain products like the Secret Lairs, the Master sets, and the division of sales for competing products, ie the Collectors boosters that WotC could be selling through LGS's. Not only that if you do some more research into the company you will see that the Head Designer Mark Rosewater has in the past few years created cards that have broken the game entirely.

I think I might love the star feature effects. it gives a natural rotation to decks by giving an incentive to build a new one based on the day or location. That has to be one of the coolest idea's I've seen in a card game. I think it has to be done right though for it to really be pulled off effectively which is going to take some trial and error.

Awesome video. Haven't heard about this until recently and I hope the game does well. Just looks like a fun game, it has more of a board game vibe to it with the point being just having a good time with friends. Nothing crazy serious and competitive. Its like on the other side of the scale in comparison to like Flesh and Blood, more Exploding Kittens, not saying that is bad at all. The whole Stonk thing is a little crazy and i agree with what Smpratte said on the subject. Just people forcing their preconceive notions onto something so new, heck even the FFTGC with legacy characters doesn't have an insane speculative secondary market. Really hope it sticks and does well for itself, just looks fun and quirky, but they got to take initiative on presenting this as a good game, make it super easy for people to get it in theirs hands on it, rather than "let see how much money i can make of it" which is how I got first exposed to it.

The 4th wall effects should just be limited to "offical procs" for any kind of "sanctioned" event and have some kind of limit on what players can bring to the table. Like you have a sorta sideboard and can bring out 1-2 "free" nearby-fire or near-a-river effects (and there be such an option for every 4th wall effect). That creates some interesting "setting" effects without having people have to set up their incense sticks and portable fountain before each game..

I think the 4th wall effects could work nicely in competitive play if each individual match (or tournament) had a sort of randomized list of possible weather/environment fields. Players would commit to playing a specific deck first, then whoever is sanctioning the event (or a judge) could run the randomized list and set the stage for the day. This would take away from someone swapping decks to get the edge, and could make more of a random brew work in this setting.

You know, I absolutely hate it when Rudy makes a video and that somehow causes the price of a booster box to spike to crazy amounts on eBay. I'd laugh if somebody made a TCG which ended up in the same situation as MetaZoo, where as soon as Rudy starts talking, prices go up, and then the creator realizes what's going on, so they create a special super- expensive "investor's edition" for him to buy. Rudy opens it up, and SURPRISE! It's full of foil jank. Sure, the game might die, but it seems like a pretty good prank. Giving scalpers a dose of their own poison.

Better yet, just reprint everything until it's only about the game and it's pieces rather than rarity, scarcity and collectability. If it sells well in the first iteration, to the point where no one can get even base sets or boosters, then as a creator you've made money and it's a success, you can afford another wave. If it tanks, so be it, at least your game is out there and available. You ought to, as a creator, design the game to have spread value across all its pieces in each set anyway

I think cards for trading card games should be treated as game pieces first and foremost and collectibles second. Also that getting a card graded and encased in touch plastic makes them as useful as a laminated paper towel.

I like this game a lot in concept, but the cost of it is just too much for me to bother. I don't care about card finance, I care about aesthethics and game mechanics and although I think the aesthethics are amazingly unique and gameplay rather interesting, the cost in time and money is too much for me personally. I really like Mothman's art though.

I think a good solution for the 4th wall break rule would be to use that map included l, separate it in regions and roll dice go determine where the match takes place! I absolutely adore that mechanic, and I hope they improve on it. This game sounds awesome! It's a bit of a shame that these kind of niche american games are really hard to get, let alone find other players to play with in south america, but I'd love to eventually give it a shot.

The 4th wall effect would be fun to play at parties and 'louder' community events, but it looks like it's easy enough to ignore if you want. Players probably shouldn't build decks around the 4th wall mechanics unless it's for a specific event, or maybe a tournament, but I feel like the tokens themselves and substitute for the 4th wall effect if people want to play more conservatively, or maybe it could encourage token and figurine usage from other games, like cards from other tcgs or tabletop figures. I like the idea of using a cell phone to play animations of some of the effects, then having other cards with 4th wall effects that target people who use technology to nerf the usage a bit. Overall though I like the fact that it encourages real life interactive play and collecting, and I think there will be a huge surge of enthusiasm in that regard when the pandemic ends, so I'm banking on that a bit right now, but still enjoying opening packs too . . . I pulled a rare Powerup Red from one of those blister packs, and thus begins the hunt for the other eight of the Obnoxious Nine.
