on some mowers there is a fuse inline on the charging system.Check all fuses.

measure the dc to groun a regulator with eng running should read over 12 upto 15 v dc on the center tap on reg if not check the two out side lugs fr 40v ac to ground with eng running if no volts is the stator set your meter on ohms conn leads to th plug thatyou unplugfrom regulator to the outside conn you shoud get a reading in ohms you are reading thru those coils if no reading you ma have a wire problem going to stator it is open somewhere you will need to go into it then

Torque specs on the flywheel, I have a deere with a kohler 16hp and the wires heat up where the regulator plugs to the wires

I'm not sure what model engine the 16HP version is, but In the Kohler manual it says 55 ft-lbs for the flywheel retaining screw, on KT715 through KT745. Looks like you wanted to know this 4 years ago so I'm just posting this for posterity.

I'm trying to figure out on my Kohler stator which wire is hot and ground...it has 3 wires ..one purple..2 green ...on one of the green wires it has a connector clip at the end which is bot connected to anything..im trying to rewire it to the battery.

What's the thread pitch of the long bolts going into the flywheel? As I can get 5/16-18 and 5/16-24 started, but then they get real hard to turn. And so I can't figure out what the correct bolt size is?

On my craftsman Lt 2000 there’s 2 brown wires keeping me from taking the stator off

whats the part number for the voltage regulator on this exact motor. i have the same one and my voltage regulator is bad, but the sticker with the engine model number is gone. this is the closest ive gotten to it yet

How do I know it's the alternator and not the regulator? I'd hate to pull the flywheel off and all that if it was just the regulator...how to confirm?

You should be able to. My local Advanced Auto will loan tools for free. You just have to leave a deposit until you return the tool.

What is the AC output here? I just replaced one. Same voltage output. No improvement. Waste of time and money.

the ac reading with eng running should read up to 40 volts ac to ground measyerd at the regulator on the two outside lugs read lug to griund on each one the lug should read over 12 vdc to ground up o 14v if its ok if ac is missing its the stator if dc is missing its the regulatoryou wlii have dc from battery on that center lug if it charging it will be up to 14v dc do let that confuse you

test this way at the regulator on the 2 out side lugs to ground if stator is good and the eng is running you will read 40ac each outside lug if no ac its bad stator if you read ac but read no 14 dc on center lug replace regulator make these test prior to taking any thing apart

You give no reason for replacement. Show us how to test the stator first so see if it is at fault.
