A special occasion coming up! Looking forward to seeing what that is. My guess is your fry are regular goldfish but time will tell I guess.

This is so hard..having three very large 30”-36” -1st 2021 fall spawn-gave f1-thru-f7-over 1,000-fry-hatching in a 180 gal. & select fry into 20gal . High..all started black..& turned all white..within 6months the selection in the 20 were moved to 180 & grew to 6” & living in N.E. Winter hold over..started to run out of room..& as I tried to add -the 20 f7 fry @6” & it was like throwing them out into the ocean for stripped bass!! The footage is crazy!! -3 large koi-& one large hybrid/isrial koi? Point they fist smacked ‘em till death..& then slowly started to eat everything? What I find strange is the nature selection. These were all platinum fish/not fry @ 6” growth was sooo fast!! Strangely they continue -however, leaving one of the 6” platinum to live? Eats swims with the big boys & added back to large pond..I thought I had -20-def.. selection of koi. Fin., everything matched but what made these large koi, kill & eat over 100 large fry b4 I noticed one being smacked out of the 400gal. Black hold over koi. Why Did they select all to die? They couldn’t swallow..they had to just suck on? It was weird based on the size selection..the female is a hybrid & I know due to /spawn almost getting killed by two large koi? Maybe it’s not? Idk? I could att. A pic. For example-I cannot tell-& it’s my belief-they run their own natural selection-? The pic’s video’s-of adding 6” fat hybrids were killed savagely!! I never seen or knew koi could b so ..fierce..grow-out -added over 100-b4 straight death..to all but 1-selected by the group

My guess is that it is more a question of competition for food. The larger koi have a atvantage on the small fry and just kill them, no eating involved. Same thing happens when you get tobis in your fry batch. You better get them out in to a seperate tank or tub,... Becouse the kill off all the smaller fry to have moor food for them selves in order to grow stronger. It's alsow a sort of natural selection. That is why it is hard to add small koi to a batch of big ass koi, you could add a buffer of goldfish in the pond but if you have like a koi only pond it can get hard if size is a big difference

@@vertigoone-one-722 Thought the same-only thing-increased high protein..during winter-booster for growth-into spring spawn-bk. Into pond.2022 “No shortage of food” was thinking the high proteins, maybe or just nature-thanks I’ll upload a short. Should come across it. Just very savage-thanks much!

Informative vid mate. Really nice. I have kept fish for 40 years, but never goldfish. Maybe I should try sometime. Do you measure nitrate and phospate in your pond? Do you mind sharing your values?
@vertigoone-one-7223 жыл бұрын
I do mesure them from time to time. I will send you the info on my next levels. Most of the time they are spot on, so not high at all.
