just love your videos! I'm so jealous lol. I've only had small aquarium fish but I've managed to keep them 14 yrs so far 😄. I don't think anyone needs to worry about your fish, they are obviously extremely well cared for. Investing as much as you have, I'm sure you know each fish on a personal level haha. Great videos to really inform ppl on the care and keeping of our beautiful fish lives.

Ur koi carps r so very lucky to have you as their parent..the only thing is that koi carps enjoy digging rocks pebbles etc for their peace of mind r playing..n there is no strong water currents to make r force kois to swim against the tide which is also a good for their mental condition..stress free like that..even for all barbs too..is not necessarily in your view?

Terrific, informative video. Your indoor pond is amazing, wow! You've also got some beautiful, huge koi to go along with it too. How many koi do you reckon you've got in there currently? Were they Japanese imported? TIA

+verlander99 Thanks for your comment. There are about 50 fish in there. All the Koi I buy now are Japanese but there are 3 Israeli koi that are over 10 years old. The Sturgeon and Rudd are from English breeders also a long time ago. Adam

Great vid mucker..... i currently feed mine coppins food, ive had some good resalts even though its a cheeper food, i do find it leaves a slight oily patch on the surface but soon clears, anyways i was looking at stepping it up a bit this year and trying nt labs, kasuri, or nishikoi. I kbow you said about kasuri in this vid but have had any experiance with nt labs or nishikoi? Cheers Lee 👍🐟

Looks like Coppens are making some good pellet feed now for the koi industry. "Made in Holland" gives it away ;o) I wonder how many pellets are made for the industry by the two big aquaculture feed manufacturers - Coppens and Skrettings.

Is it beneficial at all to soak the pellets first as I was just wondering if dry pellets would swell in the fish once it has been swallowed and gets wet?
@AdamJulyan
@AdamJulyan 3 жыл бұрын
No not at all it makes no difference. The practice of soaking pellets comes from fishing where you might soak the pellets in say fat to make them more attractive to the fish but with these pellets they are already attractive enough so it has no benefit at all.
@MakoyUnggoy
@MakoyUnggoy 3 жыл бұрын
@@AdamJulyan Thanks for the info, I was only concerened as I thought the pellet might increase in size once moisture had soaked into it it and if the fish had swallowed half a dozen then you wouldn't want them increasing in size once they had already been swallowed...Once again, thanks for that, it's appreciated!

Adam , what auto fish feeder do you recommend to buy for when i go on holiday , i have read some comments on amazon that they block up but what they dont say is what food they put in it that blocks . Thanks Gary .

I like these fish feeders = www.absolute-koi.com/prod1593.html the cloverleaf ones have always been good to me i usually get the medium one. I have tried other more expensive ones that have blocked with just standard round pellets but the cloverlead is a simple design that just works. There is also a small battery one that i like in case you dont have mains the battery lasts forever and seams a good feeder link = www.absolute-koi.com/prod2192.html Adam

Hi, someone I know is giving me some of their koi after they hatch from the eggs next yr so before I get them next yr I thought I should learn more bout kois and all the important stuff. I already know bout them being really big fish and need a really big £ deep space to swim and move around and that they're actually pond fish. Since the koi I'll be getting will be baby koi that just hatched I'm thinking of keeping them in a tank inside my house so I can keep a better eye out for them then move them outside in my pond after they get bigger. So can you recommend me some koi food I can feed for the baby koi? And also, all of the koi food you mentioned in your video, instead of feeding them multiple different type of food, can I just stick to one type of brand and just feed them that one type only? Would they still grow big and healthy? Can you tell me out of all those brands that you talked bout, can you recommend me the best kind to feed them that will make them healthy and grow big?
@AdamJulyan
@AdamJulyan 8 жыл бұрын
Hi, i actually showed one of the Fry foods on this video its called daphnia the one in the video is dried daphnia which can be given to Fry but i would recommend live daphnia to give them the best possible chance. it depends on the size of the fish to what you feed them so you can also feed fry standard koi pellets although higher protein sturgeon pellets are what i would use and grind them into a dust so they can eat them. You can also feed boiled egg yoke blend it and feed them that. feeding should be 4 times per day. when they get to about 1inch in size i start feeding them the really small pellet i showed in the video it does not really matter what brand you use just make sure its not a cheap nasty food as it will not do them very well for later in life. it is better having them inside the temp fluctuations and less and they will be warmer and you will be able to watch them very close. raising fry can be very difficult and it will be a big learning curve although i find raising fry is the best way to learn what your other fish could benefit from although dont expect them all to survive they will die. the first time i had fry within 2 month they were all dead admittedly i made some mistakes that i now would not make but thats part of the process. Hope that helps Adam

That's really helpful info and advice. What kind of pellets did you feed you koi when they grow to 1"? Which brand would you recommend the most that would keep them healthy and grow big like yours? And I agree this will be my first time keeping small ones, are there any other advice/tips you can give me so I don't make many mistakes and keep them alive and healthy? Oh while I keep them inside I ask some others since I have comets goldfish, a lot has told me that I can keep comets and koi together and that would be fine. Would that really be fine to keep them in the same tank while I'm still growing the koi til they get bigger then move them?
@AdamJulyan
@AdamJulyan 8 жыл бұрын
If there is no other option than to keep them with comets then they should be ok although i would avoid mixing koi fry with other fish for two reasons i dont know how the comets would react to the food that fry require and the fry will destroy the water quality which might also be a bit hard on the comets. keep a close eye on water quality i did not have a filter in my tank and would change 50-75% of the water daily but make sure there is no temperature difference in the water. also temperature of the tank must be between 16-25DegC for best results and once you have chose a temp keep it at that temp if you do water change fill a tank up the day before and put that water in so its had time to settle and warm up. if you are in the UK then this is the small food i feed to 1" koi queni-koi.co.uk/tosai-grower-197-p.asp its a store brand but i find it to be spot on. if your not in UK them im sure your will find something local that will do the trick have a look at the ingredients and compare to other foods. Adam
@xokawaiiliciousxo
@xokawaiiliciousxo 8 жыл бұрын
Okay, I'll keep that in mind. My comets are pretty friendly and I have a filter for my tank but I'll make sure to watch out for water quality. I live in the US but I'll see if online might sell that brand if not I'll try to find the closest one to that. Thanks for the help and advice. Oh and for the fry you used the good that you've mentioned in the earlier comment and in your video right?

I would advise against keeping sturgeons in captivity; they grow to 7-12 feet long (which is at least double the size of your largest koi) and really belong in rivers, lakes and coastlines.

Sawk Video Productions it irritates that sturgeons get sold as pets in all honesty. This gentleman here has an amazing pond, and even in there it's less than ideal for them. Yet I see garden centres and even pet shops sell them with very little information about how big they will get or what their needs are. I've even seen them being sold as tank fish! TANK FISH! They are so beautiful and different and interesting, but not pets.

+Richard Hodkinson They might come up if they are hungry enough as they will be able to smell the floating food but mine would probably starve to death before he came up. Also unlike koi they need to eat periodicaly or they get to a point where there is no going back and they just die that means feeding over winter when koi should not eating.
