Hey fantastic update thanks a lot woke up this morning to a huge amount of fry dead and as far as I can work out its the ammonia level in the pond any ideas what I can do to bring it down ?
@joe-n-texas87477 жыл бұрын
aaron fulcher I use a large trickle filter with lava rock as media, this keeps my pond with no ammonia and the plants get the excess nitrate/nitrites. I took my water to be tested professionally and the man said he has never had someone come with that clean of water
@aaron12787 жыл бұрын
Joe -n- Texas hi thanks I've just bought a green genie 24000 today so you think I should change the media to lava rock ?
@AdamJulyan7 жыл бұрын
Water changes are very important for fry they can destroy water quality really quick. if the green genie has plastic media in it then i would recomend changing that to a ceramic media or sintered glass lava rock would also work. anything is better than those plastic pipe rings.

Love how the fries spread out in the larger tank. Is there a specific time/size when they get upgraded to a larger tank/pond?
@AdamJulyan7 жыл бұрын
Not really i could have put them in that tank from the beginning but i already had some fish in it. I will move them to another tank if the tank can no longer handle the amount of fish or if they get big enough to go into another tank with larger fish then some will change tanks again. Adam

@huggybear16527 жыл бұрын
Had a look at Cuttlebrook koi farm website - very impressive! Near me too! Have pay them a visit I think.
@victorlopez-tl9mr6 жыл бұрын
To answer your question why they were dead fries in your delivery, it's normal to have dead fish in it, those are the fish that didn't make it to the destination at the same time the hours of travel the fish took makes oxygen level derease hence makes the amonia level high. And another gift of advice, once the fish arrives you need to make sure that you already have a container for quarantine and water. I saw the first video you had when the fries arrived, you should've temperature acclimate the bag full of fry into the quarantined container for about 20 to 30 mintues. After doing that, the separate the water that is in the bag from the quarantined water, abd scope the fry into a net for it not to transfer any bacteria into the quarantined container, the reason why you should separate it, it's because once you open the bag, amonia level shoots up hence makes the water in the bag more toxic than ever. It would've been better instead of 100+ koi fries dead, it would've lessen the mortality. Well this is jist my opinion. Keep up the good work Adam! Peace!

@teachmyflock94456 жыл бұрын
In order to grow on the best quality koi with good characteristics the first cull should be The bottom swimmers that need to be culled. Then a little while later the defects and poor body shape. Then then later on again the ones with the undesirable markings.

Help lol, the same time as last year I've got 2 koi with ulcers, water checked fine and scrape with nothing found really pulling my hair out any idea mate
@AdamJulyan7 жыл бұрын
Hi, If you are 100% there is no parasite and the water quality is fine then the fish have probably done something trying to get food as they can be a bit aggressive this time of year either way they have damaged themselves and bacteria has got into the wound the best thing to do is anaesthetise the koi and clean the wound with iodine and seal it with beeswax or whatever you can get from your local pet store. It might be a good idea to slightly raise the salt levels in your pond to reduce the bacteria in the water and increase your filter cleaning and water changes. Hope that helpsAdam
@RicksAquariumsuk7 жыл бұрын
Adam Julyan cheers for the info mate, I wanted to put salt in the pond as well as the salt dips I've done, but it's all good and negative comments on people you ask and read about.
