I give my fish much more pallets. Flakes for the goldfish.. I see some eat all the food of others in your pond..that big orange one haha . Mine like tialpa, worms and chicken weirdly enough. The worms i buy from the biofarm they are for composting your soil veggiegardens and i breed them..so they truly waiting for these worms..bloodworms makes them fiesty.. Good idea those oranges..i give marigold flowers since a week i had that from the Gregg the pondguy..aquaponics owner . that brightens their colour too and keeps parasites away.. Great Koi food ideas.In NYC we have a number of Chinatowns and one can get dried baby salt water shrimp at a low price,great for koi though I rinse them because they are often salted heavily.I'm surprised you didn't include earthworms.Koi and most other fish love them and there not hard to find or cultivate.I did not feed my koi the amount of fruit and vegetables that you do and I think this was a mistake.Have you tried Mullberries and other fruits as well?Wild Carp love a variety of fruits like oranges,cantelope,strawberries and raspberries to name a few.I have fed squid which is cheap and contains 50%protein when it fresh and moist to many fish but never koi.Do you have any experience with squid as food for koi?Any info would be appreciated.I enjoyed your presentation a lot.

Great pond! Expensive to build for sure, but How much does it cost to run it? What is the key element u think the water is so clear? Another thing is that the fish color is not as vibrant as some of the outdoor kept koi, still an amazing pond!
@AdamJulyan
@AdamJulyan 8 жыл бұрын
Some of the koi are old and the water is hot which dulls colours in winter the colour of the fish is spot on. That is why koi shows are done in winter because the fish look better and dont have eggs. The water is clear because it does not have a lot of sun light but also because of the filtration the drum filters and biological river are really good at cleaning the water of particles and chemicals. it cost around £150 per month for water and electric. Adam

Many koi keepers don’t like introducing anything but their standard koi food because of possible bacteria contamination. Do you ever worry or ever had an issue?
@AdamJulyan
@AdamJulyan 5 жыл бұрын
I do worry about that just not with cooked food. But i do give them cabbage and stuff like that which was grown in a field and probably sprayed with water from a local river so could carry all sorts and i have microscope a cabbage before and found some interesting things so before i put one in i will microwave it so its really hot and hopefully kills any unwanted things.

Like your Answer #2 - I can believe it. I've watched all your Koi videos. I'm very impressed with the quality of your pond and how well you've built it. It looks much larger than just 9,000 gal. We built our pond - which is about 15,000 imp gal ourselves -- and it was a lot of work. We're still paying some of the errors our original contractor made. I am especially impressed with the way you laid out your electrical panel. You must be a professional contractor yourself to do such a thing of beauty!

Your koi are so beautiful. I have three in a pond and am new to this but they’re growing so so fast that I’m already going thinking of having a bigger pond. Also I have live wax worms for a couple of geckos I have and thought they might make a nice treat but you said not to give live food due to bugs etc - these wax worms are indigenous to the UK and bred in captive clean conditions so I’m wondering if I can give them as an occasional treat. Also I meant to add - thanks so much for sharing your expertise and the treats these gorgeous fish can have. One of mine takes food from anyone, a smaller one does now too so I’m just trying to tempt koi number three and actually have mussels in the freezer for a puffer fish. Looks like they’ll be getting some mussels tomorrow now. 😉

@snowberryca
@snowberryca 7 жыл бұрын
Adam Julyan Man, your koi's head is small with the huge body, you didn't feed them enough calcium for them to grow bigger head, these smaller head type is degraded in competition. and the worms are not koi's food, it's more like bird food, you do need to feed them with shrimp much much more! So they can grow their bone.

Hi Adam, whats youre max water temp when heated up, is the sturgeon doing wel in higher temps, cause they like cold water. i want to install heating in my pond but also have u sturgeon swinmming.
@AdamJulyan
@AdamJulyan 8 жыл бұрын
+TophatOrange The issue that sturgeon have with warm water is that it does not contain as much oxygen as colder water and they require a lot more oxygen than koi my max water temp is 24DegC which is about the recomeneded max for sturgeon. From 26DegC+ you will start to see the sturgeon suffer as this temp does not have enough oxeygen no matter how much you try. If you are going to get to 24DegC i would definatly reccomend powerfull airation as i have with the airated bottom drains. Adam
@TophatOrange
@TophatOrange 8 жыл бұрын
thx for the quick reply and explanation, i do have air on my bottom drain, and going to make a bakki shower extra next to my existing filter system, im also using a Sander freshskim 300 + an ozon generator, al combined wil probably generate enough oxygen.

It really dipends on what you want the pond its self probably cost around £20,000 but the buiilding its in cost a lot and probably increased the cost of the pond its self. if it was outside somethings might have been cheaper such as the foundation and walls would not have to be so strong if they where not holding a building up.
