Koi Pond Bio Filter - How Do You Like Yours?

Which media do you guys prefer, plastic or ceramic?? What is your preferred Bio Static Filter, Moving Bed or Shower filter. In this Bio unit on my pond ‪@dkoi-tv‬ I used all medias and systems giving me the best of all worlds.
How do you do yours?

Can't beat a fully mature moving bed, k1, etc. Looks after it's self and can handle a fair amount of load. Heavy feeding, however, a high flowing shower, makes a world of difference. Which also adds oxygen, which in turn works well in combination with a moving bed.

Yes this is why my bio is set up the way it is. 20K LPH is recycling over the shower back into the chamber. 5K LPH is returning to the pond giving the dwell time in the static side and the moving bed side. I always thought showers produced oxygen however I watched a good where they tested dissolved oxygen going in the water going into the shower and then the water coming out. There was less oxygen leaving the shower. Turns out it is due to the bacteria consuming Nitrite in the shower as Nitrite is 2 parts oxygen to 1 part nitrogen. Was very interesting. @dkoitv7863 Setup looks good, though, mate, and pond is coming along nicely. I'm looking forward to the decking and pond walls being finished. It's funny you mention the lower oxygen coming out of the shower. As I was reading an article on it a few weeks back. But I haven't seen the results as of yet as to the findings. I think they was doing different media's and flow rate setups. So definitely interested to see the results, as it could change a few things.

Agreed 👍🏻 that's why I set my filter up that way. Ceramic, plastic, static, moving bed & shower... Pond back to 20 degrees this morning everyone looks happier 👌🏻

@dkoitv7863 you did absolutely amazing. The other benefit is that the pond is quiet. No gushing water be a use of the shower, that's really nice for you and neighbours. I love quiet ponds, makes everything so peaceful.

@LauMagroTheFrenchKOInection yes it's nice out there in the morning having my coffee watching them swim around in silence. Need to get the rest of the garden sorted and a door on the filter house.... I quit my corporate job in June! Last day was end of July! I took August off and made some memories with the girls. Started my own firm 1st September so I am very stretched for time at the minute... However it will be a means to a better work life balance in a year or two... Then I can really start enjoying the hobby..
