A friend of mine owns a watercress farm very near to me (Hurds Watercress) and has always preached its health virtues, seems also to grow, great way to suck up the nitrates and to take cuttings for dinner, win win results, great video, keep them coming 👌👍

It's gone nuts it has to be the Nitrate its feeding on we are lucky hear Nitrate level is very very low in the tap water so to get readings lower than that out the pond take some doing. As said if yours has not taken off in a week try some from a different shop

As your video is from earlier in the year if you are still having problems with blanket weed, I highly recommend you try next time Cloverleaf Blanket Answer I have used it twice over the years and its work first time, it has zero effect on your bio filter and is easy to apply with a watering can just cover the surface and sides and waterfall if you have one, you wont see the koi for a few days because of the milky appearance of the water, but in a few days it clears, just keep checking your filtration for any excess dead blanket weed accumulating and thats it, you may find blanket weed reappears years later but this is likely to have come into the pond on birds feet or has been introduced on any new plants.

Thanks that's what I used this time and the last the ponds in full sun and my last pond was the same but this is the first year I have had to treat two times. I tried the pink crystals before the cloverleaf this year first time and it did not touch it unfortunately cause it don't leave a mess like the cloverleaf but its no good if it don't do the job so cloverleaf all the way

I kill the algie hideing in the pond by putting one cap of food Hydrogen Peroxide in the pond water every 2 weeks for 6 weeks it kills all the string algie and other stuff on the walls then when it warms up to around 12c I put water lettuce in my filter this helps to drop the ph down and controls nitrate and amonia.

Good video again mate nuts how much it has grown in only a few weeks you might have to get the wood skills out and make some dividers so the watercress don’t take over the veg fillter I am off to get a few new plants 🌱 to day 👍👌

Pop some cress in that gravel pond return on yours you will be surprised

That looks good, I’m looking into doing one myself for my koi pond, I didn’t know you could eat the watercress from the pond? Is that because it’s separate from the actual pond? Iv had it in my pond before and got told not to eat it as it would possibly make me I’ll, ( runs/sick) but my koi have eaten what was in there!! Ones again thank you.

This looks like thebeay to go. My nitrates out of the tap are high. I live in cornwall in the country and our water comes from a borehole. Ove held off due to the worry of the nitrates. I will look into how to build one. My pond will be 2.4mtr square sleeper pond. Many thanks
@boxtriker4 жыл бұрын
Hi Nitrates out the tap are a bummer but plants in the pond or best a veg filter in a feeder tank can pull it right down. if you look round the old videos you will find the sort of plants you want to get growing high Nitrate eaters. Thanks for watching
@1stpatteb2 жыл бұрын
What about in winter when the plants die off? Ive got a 2000 litre goldfish pond with perfect water quality all through summer. Now in January the Nitrate level is between 20 and 40 ppm as the water Lettice has all died back in the cold weather.
@boxtriker2 жыл бұрын
The pond is over filtered so the other filters can handle it with the cut down food over winter. plus if you look at the videos from this summer you will see i have built a new filter that sits in the veg with a slow run of water over it that grows moss over it that grows year round so will do well on the Nitrate

Still getting zero nitrates mate?
@boxtriker4 жыл бұрын
Get zero or tap water level never had a test show more I don't think its just the plants it must be the grog as well as winter would show a higher reading as the plants die back
@KoiRun504 жыл бұрын
@@boxtriker Would love to see another video on the topic of nitrates. Thanks. I agree with you plants is not the only part of reducing nitrates, but the media does too. I find lower nitrates in the winter time probably because of decrease feeding but also the nitrifiers are also less effective in colder waters.
