Nestorian refers to heretics who believe that Christ’s human nature and divine nature were utterly separate, so much so that they wouldn’t call Mary the mother of God. But it’s somewhat doubtful of how much the actual Nestorians followed this theology, it’s possible that they were strawmanned by their contemporaries

I did a really fun campaign with the East Asia Expansion mod where I did the meme and took Hæstinn to India. His descendents settled in the Philippines and hybridized with the local culture picking up a perk that let feudal dukes and counts raid no matter what. Eventually, the Hæstinnsons invaded Japan and swore fealty to to the Emperor. After invading Japan, they finally switched from Àsatru to Nestorianism. Only recently did an apostate Emperor convert to a Chinese Taoist sect that has almost identical tenets to Catholicism.

That was an alternate timeline that was really close to happening. I don't remember exactly, but either Ghengis Khan's father's tribe, or his mother's tribe, or his primary wife's tribe, had adopted Syriac Christianity in the period before the rise of the Empire. The point is, 'nestorianism' was an important religion among the court of Ghengis Khan and some of his family. I think, I'm definitely not remembering this very well.

An interesting and easier start for this is also Yaqub Laythzade of the Saffarids in Persia in 867. The guy was historically accused of being, among other things, a Christian by contemporary Muslim sources because of his hostility to the Caliph, despite him most likely being a Sunni Muslim. It’s fun to try and end the struggle as a Persian Nestorian Christian and then even rebuild the Palace of Ctesiphon, as Nestorians are one of the faiths that are allowed to do so

In my experience, it's easier to do from eastern Persia westwards, because you can play the politics of India better and use allies much closer to you. Legacy of Persia also gives you a fun additional challenge of becoming the next Shahanshah and playing uno reverse on your Muslim, Zoroastrian, Hindu, and Buddhist overlords. Just don't make the same mistake I did by making alot of theocratic county vassals; if their randomized ruler isn't of an Iranian herritage, the game won't let you take the Unite Persia decision if there's enough of them about
