Ngl the story was amazing. A wrongfully exiled knight goes on an adventure throughout Spain to be then rehonored and then move on to Italy in search for love, only for her to die as he was on his back from Valencia. Heart broken with grief he lost taste for the foods he once enjoyed. In grief but not broken, he then moved onto the HRE and in the marketstalls he met the Empress, a beautiful sight for his Castillian eyes, he tried to elope but alas was found out. His 2nd lover now imprisoned, fleeing back to Spain in hopes to find comfort in a friend, only to find out his friend has disappeared 4 years ago while he was in the HRE. Old friends and aquiantances though flock to him and greet his return and inform him the king has left a daughter, and it was dire times. So he does what he does best. Fight. Pushing back the muslim invaders and securing his friend's daughter's queenship and being graciously rewarded in silver and gold. With coffers full, a thousand strong army of veterans and his loyal friends and nephew by his side, nothing it would seem to stop him. And there the pope calls for a crusade into the northern fringes. El Cid's eyes gleam with enthusiasm, another war to fight and against pagans. An opportunity to finally settle and win favor in the eyes of God. Gold, God and Glory! he shouted to his mercenary company. All cheered and set sailed for Prussia. But alas, the crusade was doomed, heavy winds delayed many of the Crusaders, only El CId's company and a few hundred men from the HRE arrive to the border and shores of Prussia. Outnumbered and outmatched, El Cid would find his nephew dead, many of his loyal veterans gone and most of his treasure lost. He himself wounded, and contracting typhus in the cold north, he then gets delivered some more depressing news, the crusade has failed and many of the crusaders have gone turning home. Depressed and saddened. El Cid decided to sail off to Sweden, maybe there he could find peace. With whatever silver and gold he had left, he boarded a ship to Sweden, but alas unbeknowsnt to him, he would die of his infection enroute to Sweden. There he was given a burial at sea. For no one knew El Cid in the cold fringes of the North. To the sailors he was but a lowborn adventurer or a lost crusader.

his real name was actually Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar. El Cid was a nickname given by the Arabs in Spain to him, which came from the Arabic Al-Sayyid (El Cid) which translates to, "the Lord or the Sir". He has an insane story and dies in 1099. As soon as he dies, Spain goes to shit for a bit it's quite insane. There's a video documentary by Kings and Generals iirc, very good highly recommend if ur into history

Also of course we must say that his story is likely very embellished like that from other knightly figures of the time, but it's absolutely insane and not very well known so everyone please check it out, not many know the stories about the knights in Spain, it's a period where arab and Christian cultures collide and mix and a person could be helping a lord comquer a castle one day to come the next day under his enemies banner to reconquer it. But sadly no, el cid is more of a legend than anything and the stability of the not yet unified kingdoms didn't really depend on him, it's still a fun story of lager than life characters doing absolute showings of strength and tactical genius but remember it's not actual history, but more of an ode or legend

In my playthrough I united the Spanish kingdoms under El Cid, married his irl wife, captured Jerusalem in the first crusade, then placed his daughter as its Queen and finally created a pretty good Legend for him. He was still a beast when he died at 70. The Sid is possibly my favourite CK3 character so far.

Hello, I'm from Spain and my grandmother told me the song of The My out Cid. During the time in which the kingdom was divided, his friend King Sancho won over his brothers, but died under mysterious circumstances. and his brother ascended the throne. He took the new king's hand and made him swear on the Bible that he had had nothing to do with his brother's death. When the king swore, the cid knelt down and swore loyalty to him. After this and other disagreements, the cid was banished. But such was his expertise on the battlefields that both Muslims and Christians began to follow him. The Muslims called him siddi = Cid which means my lord. Faced with this, the cid refused and continued to be loyal to his king, which is why he handed over part of the loot and all the conquests to his king, the same one who banished him. In the end the Cid wall defending Valencia from the Moors but his legend does not end there, his wife Ximena put his corpse on top of her horse with her sword. When the Muslims saw the cid returning from the dead to counterattack, the enemies withdrew

This DLC is the best CK3 DLC, it may even be the best Crusader Kings DLC in general. Now all they need is playable republics and I think CK3 may have actually surpassed CK2 for me.

So my first try with him was well mediocre. I got to his desicion and to the swan knight desicion. Couldnt become conquerer and somehow could overthrow the county of valencia. It was my second try on a landless ruler, it went better but still lot of improvements to get.

El cid is a half historical, half legendary figure of the Spanish reconquista, think like Richard lionheart, he was a true person but most definitely wasn't as great and outstanding as portrayed that is the result of trobadours making a story interesting, in the story el cid is exiled as the whole city watches him leave thinking that he was a true honourable knight and the king made a mistake by exiling him, from there he leaves to fight many battles against the arabs in the skirmishes between petty lords that little by little led to the recomquista, almost all his battles where in extreme disadvantage with him pulling victory through martial might and strategical superiority, the arabs are little more than faceless godless heathens, instead of the actual high science civilization they were being the most developed people during those ages, so if you are looking for a historical description of the reconquista , don't do it here, this is just a story about a super knight killing people to regain the trust of his king. Funfact:A very common phrase in the story being muttered by everyone when el cid appears is "el Cid campeador, que a buena hora ciño espada" which CK3 appears to have translated to "born in a good hour" but in reality it's more similar to " who at a good hour grabbed a sword " why this change is beyond me, maybe to help the epitaph sound better I don't know, anyways those who like knight stories similar to the ones in England but have already gone through those, check the Spanish ones, we have a lot, not everything is don quijote, which was in fact a critique to thos very same stories And yes it is in fact mandatory by law to say el cid campeador in an aggressively andalussian accent with trumpets in the background despite him being from castille
