Why isn't the backward kick used during the jump when performing the kata?

Ushiro geri is extremely hard to perform in that jump.
@NorsePJ3 жыл бұрын
@@ОстојаСиметић Yes it is, but when people win gold medals performing that kata it should be done with the kick. That's just how I feel. But I've been to many championships and the judging is mostly biased and laughable.

In traditional Karate… When you preform Kata you don’t always perform the techniques as per your bunkai interpretation, If you do, .. you limit the bunkai that could be applied. [the bunkai can be adapted to suit the personal physique of the practitioner] Example In Sandan at the end of the Kata you lift the knee and stamp, in the 1970’s I was taught to kick mae Geri before you stamp, then a few years later I was taught it’s not Mae Geri it a crescent kick. Then after getting some proper instruction from the JKA I was taught don’t kick, just lift the knee, because the bunkai can be many different interpretations for the same movement. ….. In 50 years of training with the JKA I have never seen a top instructor perform the ushiro Geri when doing this jump, I was taught to practice it during bunkai but never do it in the kata. The only person I’ve ever seen do the kick is a certain Italian performer who does it in competition to impress people with his athletic ability and appears to be confused over what kata actually is.

Thought for sure he was going to land on the piece of tape and end up faceplanting after the jump.

He finished a good metre in front of where he started. I don't care too much about that personally, but i thought it was still "a thing" for kata competitors...or am I wrong?

@@neiltaylor1765 thank you for your reply. I too had many happy years with the KUGB. I am still struggling to see the incomplete techniques you allude to? The transition between stances is clear to see and the kime evident where it should be
