The solution is the restoration of statehood and handing Kashmir back to Kashmiris, but that will take time. The millennials and Gen-Zs need to move into the fabric of the state administration and politics. The older lot in Kashmir, be it in administration or politics, have vested interests and are not the voice of the average Kashmiri.

Really liked Karan Thapar line of questioning of Mr. AS Dulat. What comes out from this interview is interesting that Kashmir currently is mired with so much secrecy that even people in power are unable to make their mind whether terror activities have decreased or not. kashmir full of tourists cannot be taken a symbol for return of normalcy. Terror activities have gone deep underground with no more posterboys of terrorism being openly talked about. It is worrisome ternd indeed!! one thing that India has lost post article 370 is the trust of gujjar,pahadi communities.Before article 370 90% of them were not only pro Indian but also helpers of army in those mountains .But after 370 they felt like they were betrayed by the India and are slowly and slowly turning anti India which could be a challenge for the security forces because they literally rule those mountains .

And, according to the UN, the plebiscite would be held only after the Pakistani army and tribals had left Kashmir. And Pakistan has clearly failed to do so. Pakistan has not yet left Kashmir.

What everyone in India and Pakistan miss out on Pakistan is that Pakistan has a nation within nation wherein the Pakistan Army is a nation within Pakistan itself. Everyone associated directly and indirectly with Pakistan Army including the politician are wealthiest in their own right while the country Pakistan is in complete crises. The terrorism in Pakistan is the fight against the Pakistan Army. For decades the West especially the US has fat fed the Pakistan Army, it's close association with China makes Pakistan Army even more lethally equipped. When we as Indians must view this is the fact that turning Kashmir into UT and creating Ladakh is the worst tactical decision every made on our part. Now we have the only two enemies in Pakistan and China are alternatingly conducting attacks on us while China is attacking us in Ladakh which became aggressive after separation of Ladakh from Kashmir State and Pakistan continues to infiltrate through POK and targets our armed forces. I strongly urge every Indian not to fall into the sympathy card being played by Pakistan on it's economic crises for Pakistan Army is under no crises it is rich and well resourced is independent of the country Pakistan. Gentlemen Thapar and Dulat you are not talking about the elephant in the room. India is operating out of Afghanistan and killing Pakistan soldiers in the western provinces of Pakistan. The Taliban cannot cover and control the whole of Afghanistan. It is a very big area. The Northern Alliance are still alive and well and are Indian assets against Pakistan. So to expect that Pakistan will do nothing is just wishful thinking. Just calling the Kashmiri freedom fighters terrorists will not solve the problem. India has to reduce its hostile footprint in Indian held Kashmir and talk to Pakistan. Only then there will be peace. Yes, Pakistan is embroiled in major problems at home. But Pakistan will respond to Indian hostilities. Period.
