JeanMichel does the best games reviews. The games presentations and "How to play" are the most understandable for me. I'm also a big Phil Eklund fan. I have pretty much all of his games. BIOS:Genesis is a gem of a game, a giant in a small box. High Frontier I understood and then played after JeanMichel's presentation. I'm waiting, as probably a lot of people are, for High Frontier's Mod 4: Exodus presentation. And then the continuation of the story of travel in the universe, Interstellar board game, of course, by Phil Eklund. Thanks JeanMichel!

Excellent video as always! If you take any requests, please consider doing a teaching of Europa Universalis. You're the only one on KZbin that can do it properly

As a gamer of many, many years I have heard of most of these games, played some of them and even own a few. My desire to play them in recent years has been tempered by the challenge of getting rules heavy and visually uninspiring titles to the table. However, your work has reminded me of how great some of these games are, so I’m going to dust mine down and re-learn them. Cheers.

I would be curious your thoughts on Erik Wilson's 1983 'Barbarian Kingdom and Empire". To me it seems a very unique war/simulation game featuring a high level of diegetic immersion, as I understand your definition of it. I love to play the 'Open Scenario' that consistently creates a great story telling moments. The rule link may be found under the aptly names 'Rules' forum topic on BGG, if you are interested.

Awesome video. It could be a 'holy grail' to maximize a) a high level of immersion with b) a high level of intellectual challenge. One could conceive to assign a rating 0-10 for a) and 0-10 b) individually with overall rating a)*b) where, taking for example 2 games on your list that I have played, for me personally the Magic Realm maybe something like ~9*7=63 while Too Many Bones may be ~6*5~30. Of course, each person could have their own rating and weighting system. I was thinking of this combined rating system after recently trying Serious Puolp's The 7th Citadel (T7Cit) that for me felt like a shocking and disappointing ~4*3~12 vs its predecessor The 7th Continent (T7Cont) that for me was more like ~8*8~64. It's a sad story they seem to have redesigned around the complaints that T7Cont emergent, paragraph driven engine was too undirected and difficult to make T7Cit a story book driven narrative with guard rails that I am only happy to play once to realize the masterpiece T7Cont is (after adding my own house rules and variants) for me.

Love the video. Maybe some eurogames such as hegemony could also be considered immersive games. Just a thoght...

Minor correction: Pax Porfiriana was primarily designed by Matt Eklund based on an initial concept by Jim Gutt.

@@Andy-Mesa thank you for this precision. Matt Eklund is a designer I admire. Pax porfiriana, pax transhumanity and stationfall are some of the best games in my collection.

@KokoLeMakak Thank you so much for this thoughtful presentation. I have previously watched all of your High Frontier ruleset walkthroughs, and they inspired me to dedicate myself to the game. Happy to see it listed here in it's own category! Every time I play, I find more things I could be doing differently or better, even though my friends and I are still only playing short (4 cycle) games. From this video I was particularly interested by Dungeon Degenerates, Space Empires, War Room, and Mega Civilization. Have you played Hegemony? It's about class struggle, and I find a strong immersion factor in it, identifying yourself as your class and treating the other players accordingly.

Hello Jean! I'm looking through your videos, and thought I'd ask directly.. Have you ever seen another Board game with an interesting Deck of Cards as Leder Game's Oath? With how they are drawn, moved around and even used? Secondly, what is your favorite "Card Market" System/Mechanic? I've always found Pax Pamir's card market interesting, but only for that specific game.

Have you played John Company? The greed and corruption really shines at our table. And it's always a different story for the company, with crushing defeats after glorious, profitable heights...

Yes, a very good game. Its degree of immersion depends strongly on the players' state of mind, around the table.

Phil Eklunds best game is Pax Renaissance! (First edition, of course).
@KokoLeMakak7 ай бұрын
yes, it's a good game. But in my games collection, it competes with Here I Stand. And I must admit that when I want to play a game about Renaissance in Europe, I always prefer Here I Stand. That's why Pax Renaissance is not in my top 10.

@@KokoLeMakak I get it, but Pax Ren can be played in 2 hours so I guess that both have place in collection, Pax Ren is not that immersive, but for its length, probably one of the most immersive games in existence...

Yes, I didn't try this one. In part, because of ASL... Every time I feel the need for a tactical WW2 game, I take ASL. This one killed the competition ;)

C'est un très bon jeu, évidemment. Mais je le trouve un poil trop abstrait. Idem pour imperial struggle.
