I don't believe charging to 100% is the issue, so long as the car is driven immediately. Charging a lithium battery to 100% and letting them sit is bad for them. That being said, I bought a 2023 Model 3 with 20000 miles for under $23,700. Of course it also has the LFP battery so not concerned about the battery. As far as the dealer trick about the car selling, they may not be pulling a fast one. Their website showed a car that the lot didn't have yet, said it was in service. I was near their lot at 2:00pm so i can confirm the car wasn't there. They called me to tell me it was there, at 3:30pm, I was about 15 minutes away. By the time I got there it had been test driven and the guy was in the process of buying it. They move fast. For mine, it was a rent2buy. I had to make a rental agreement, because it was a rental car in the fleet. After my rental I had the choice to purchase the car, and they wave the rental fee.

The key points are 120k mi- past battery warranty. These cost least. 50k - warranty over but power and drivetrain still active till 120k. Low than 50k miles - probably in a collision and repaired. Most expensive. I go for the 70-80k, and have to do about $1000 of suspension, tires, shocks, control arms to rejuvenate the thing. The real bonus is you are still state of the art and the software is just now blossoming to full fruition. So you can be state of the art in a severely discounted vehicle. @Cakebattered2 ай бұрын
Great video Dennis. Regarding battery health there is the site Recurrent, that uses Tesla's API to view the battery health of the car. You just need the VIN. I also recommend renting any car from Hertz before buying it and having a Tesla Service Center or a 3rd party mechanic look it over. The rental fee is subtracted from the price of the car if purchased. The new Model 3 RWD Long Range with 1.99% apr makes those used Hertz models in the high $20k range less of a deal. All the "I'd never buy a used rental" talk in the comments is hilarious, given anyone who regularly buys their cars used has probably already bought a car with "Fleet" listed in the Carfax or car history. Fleet is the term used for formal rentals. Excessive engine redlining, hard acceleration, and immediately driving after cold starts, either don't negatively affect EVs or don't apply at all. Also most of the old predictions of excessive battery degradation from Excessive DCFC isn't being backed up to current longterm data. A 2022 $15k 80k Model sounds like a great first car for a teen.

To be fair Dennis has made many informative videos for newbies to the Tesla brand but honestly this is not one of them. Buying from car rental companies is not a good idea at any situation, especially if there’s obvious evidence of known accidents. Use some common sense people.

In CA one has to also pay 10% sales tax, so for a disclosed $18k purchase price, the $4k tax credit - $1800= a net of $2200 discount... so $15,800. Also, 2025 models come out this month Sept '24, so the 2023 models should qualify soon as a 2yo vehicle
@tabbycat8511Ай бұрын
No, there is no CA 10% sales tax. That’s only if you’re dumb enough to buy in LA. In my county it’s 7.75%.

Dennis, here is my honest concern. Some of these are former rideshare vehicles and the owners charged them often from 10 to 90% and many were supercharged a couple times a day. In these sorts of cases the batteries start to present trouble shortly after warranty expiration. I've heard of cases where battery restoration is required as early as 125k miles or so. There has to be a full analysis on the condition of these batteries in this regard. It's not enough to say that they have warranty left on them; it's about how much life they may have after the warranty due to battery health and how they were charged. This personally kept me from considering one myself to use for ridesharing.
@mrfunkington2 ай бұрын
Not true, only your speculation on battery degradation. KZbin video out there on a 200k mile 4 year old Tesla supercharged daily and they only had 4% degradation
