Kolambu recipe | Badane nugge kolambu | Traditional sambar recipe | ಕೊಳಂಬು | Brinjal curry | sambar
There are different varieties of curries from different vegetables. Here is a curry which suits best for Brinjals and drumsticks combination. Nothing new, but a little different from ordinary sambar. But we call it as "kolambu". The difference is, fry the grated coconut with other spices. Tastes best if you pound the masala. Adding toor dal is very important, and the requirement of coconut is less for this curry.
Ingredients:-
Brinjal 3-4
Drumstick 3-4
Toor dal 1cup
Coconut oil 7-8sp
Turmeric powder
Greated coconut 1cup
Methi 2sp
Coriender seeds 5sp
Urad dal 2sp
Jeera 2sp
Dry red chilli 10-12
Hing
Curry leaves
Salt to taste
Jaggary
Tamarind
For tempering
Mustard seeds
Drey red chilli

I really miss such homes. When I was a kid, my grandmother's house used to be like this. My uncle used to be School Headmaster. I used to accompany him while he used to go to work. Those days no uniforms. And all students used to sit on the red oxide floor. I also used to listen to the lesson teachers taught. It was a great experience.

When you referred Keddesa I remembered eating Kudu Ari and Saarne Adde.. In today's city life we completely forgot this festival. I think only farming community in the villages may continue with this ritual..

All these traditional practices are eco friendly and responsible! Using the sheath of the areca palm leaf in place of metal dishes saves water, reduces pollution by use of dish washing soap; they can simply be composted after use. So I'm guessing that you save effort and time taken to scour metal utensils, as well!! Amazed by the wisdom of our rural communities

We use to mix the grated coconut + Masala and grind in mixie with little water for same Kolambo. May it is GSB version of Kolambu not sure. My mom used to do this great dish but lost her and the exact method. Will try seeing this again. Byadagi chilli may help getting good color

Thank you for sharing kolombu/kolombo recipe. We used to eat this as temple prasad. Always craved for this dish since childhood. I searched many KZbin channels and googled for recipes. But never got satisfactory taste or aroma. your way of explaining recipe is too good. Will definitely prepare and share the experience.

The word kolambu is used in tamilnadu also. Its a variation of sambar, huLi or kootu. But the speciality here is pounding.. that makes a difference.

Kolambo is Sarawath Brahmin recipe, normal Sambar is called Kolambo. Either potato / brinjal/cauliflower is used as main vegi. Search in youtube kolmbo/kolambo recipe you get many videos 😁

Regarding some suggestions to make VIDEO more "AUTHENTIC" by use of Earthern pots instead of Metal ones used by you in the videos! We are not watching a fictional FILM SET WITH PROPS SUGGESTED BY DIRECTOR. We look at the recipe more than what spoon has been used.Vessels changed for thousands of years, and everything is NATURAL, except may be plastics. Just because video shows a Bamboo vessel or copper or bronze vessel, viewers are not going to adopt blindly.Everything has its own good,bad, justifications and drawbacks. How many will or can cook using firewood today?
