Sam, you're just a legend. The value you have brought to the filmmaking community is immeasurable. What a privilege to have access to even some of your experience and knowledge, especially through Kolder Creative. It's always crazy to me seeing some of my friends straight up rejecting custom keyboard shortcuts or the entirety of DaVinci Resolve (probably bc its "too much work to learn"). Maybe this video will convince them to give it another try :)

Because when you speed up the editing you can save that time to put into writing scripts and researching new projects. New content doesn’t come from the editing, it comes from the writing and research. Editing should be the *SHORT* part of the process. If you have well organized ideas in pre production, then the filming and editing of footage should fall into place and almost “edit itself”. So this guy has mastered the editing so he doesn’t waste any time on projects he already has finished filming.

@@rolandcsuka1829 quality over quantity ask marvel and other films what happens when rush and take on more films they look and feel rushed. Just because he uploads 3 times a year doesn’t mean he doesn’t know how to knock out videos it just means he chooses what to upload over uploading anything and everything.

Just wanted to let you know, I bought your course and it is absolutely phenomenal. Still working my way through it, but so far it's been well organized, thorough, and you're great at explaining everything. It's interesting how I often to video editing at work and I didn't think about customizing the shortcuts. Always used the built in ones and you are right. They are not optimal! I greatly appreciate this information. Thanks a lot! Also, for anyone who wanting to use the "Trim Mode" that he displayed in Resolve, the equivalent is the Slip Tool in Premiere.

I remember telling my wife a few years ago that "If Sam ever put out a course on film and editing, I would jump at the chance". I'm now a student in the KC Community and its phenomenal. Hearing the thought process and seeing the workflow from someone who is clearly obsessed with an insanely high attention to detail, style and efficiency just blows my mind that we live in such a cool time that we get to do that. I'm so grateful to really learn from the LEGEND. The most amazing thing is this is a full-on course on how to edit using Davinci Resolve which is something I've wanted to learn how to use, but didn't know where to start. Its pretty rad to see how we can add so much more depth to our story. The learning changes your view of reality in an instant. It changes what you think is possible in editing and story telling. What really got me actually pretty stoked and something I never thought I would like- was the sound editing and design. Because of Sam's course, I look at film and music differently now. I get to "hear" what a discerning ear looks for through his walk-throughs. See what makes an epic film really stand out from the legend himself, it will open your mind in ways its never thought of before. Sam takes it to another level.

Awesome! Love tip 10! As an editor of only a couple years, I was happy to see that I knew a good majority of these tips! haha Another tip I recently discovered in Resolve is Ctrl+Shift+, or . which will just move a clip left or right in the track and swap places with what's next to it. This can probably be assigned to custom buttons to make it faster, but since I don't use it much, I'll probably just leave it.

I'm an amateur editor who has always loved film and has a knack for story and visual ideas (which I couldn't ever represent properly lol). I honestly think I've turned myself off editing from all the stress over the last 6+ years (occasional project, biting off more than I could chew; I don't have any on my account fyi). This video helped me feel a bit inspired again, vindicating my choice for DVR two years ago and teaching a few new tricks as well. If I get to a stage in my life where I make videos again, I'm going to do your course. Sounds like it'll answer my very particular questions and you have the expertise to get those visual effects results with nodes, or at least help me to know when and where to spend long amounts of time.

one of the few people who recommend a gaming mouse. I second this. I use the Razer Naga which is a 17 button MMORPG gaming mouse. Where your thumb sits has 12 programable buttons and my step 1 frame forward and 1 frame back are the 2 and 5 keys plus modifiers for shift and alt do even more keys. Turns the 17 button gaming mouse into a 50 keyboard shortcut option with just your right hand. It works great in Cinema4d.
