I really enjoy your builds. I need to finish some of mine. I have a thread on the weaponeer forum about a semi auto 9mm pistol that uses a paintball gun grip and trigger parts. It was designed by prof. parabellum as well.

I'm going to have to check my local laws and look into a build of my own. You make it look so smooth! Always look forward to your posts! Maybe you could start a forum down the road and help people there. Of course assuming everyone there follows their local country/state laws.
@clintonwestwood54987 жыл бұрын
Good idea to check local laws. Where I live, you can build for personal use, anything you can legally own or buy.
@gregj65427 жыл бұрын
Clinton Westwood that sounds like a lot of fun! I live in Ontario Canada and our gun laws a fairly strict. I've never gotten to use a legal handgun, only run rifles.
@DaveSmith-cp5kj7 жыл бұрын
I've seen quite a few Canadians, Mexicans, and citizens of Slavic countries who build a gun then disassemble it and scatter the parts later. I even know one japanese guy personally who disguised his AR belt fed as a functioning automatic cap gun (which are common and legal in that area). He made his ammo 100% from scratch using the existing cap assemblies as a primer and his own cases using sheet metal pressed on a hydraulic press. Chemicals are hard to come by in the city, but since Japan is a pretty small country, he can travel to the rural areas and buy everything he needs in a full days worth of time.

Nice build! You might consider using a long sanding drum mandrel the same diameter as the barrel sleeve so you can do both bevels at the same time. You could chuck it up in a drill press or mount a hand drill in a vise, or??? You wouldn't have to take it apart so much. Thanks for posting! Jerry

Good suggestion. I find though that trying to maintain an even, symmetric cut when cutting two surfaces against a rotating cutter is difficult. I need to apply less pressure to the leading edge. It's of course doable, just harder.

Beveling down the top of the rails as you have done seemed to work. Could you have accomplished the same by shortening the grip in order to raise the mag? I am curious as to how you fixing the barrel in to the frame. Permanently attached, or just captive with a round dovetail.
@clintonwestwood54987 жыл бұрын
I did shorten the grip as far as I was comfortable with. I may have to notch the forward grip web slightly for final adjustment.
@rdtradecraft7 жыл бұрын
Clinton, sir, you really should consider getting an account on Minds.com. No self censorship or invitation required, you can show all the rounds in the mag you wanted, complete and detailed build vids and still images can be posted in their entirety, including the one that was featured in Popular Mechanics, and the site has ad-style and Patreon-style monetization support, and there is no risk of getting the Lauren Southern Treatment there. Bill and John Ottman, two of the sites principals and cofounders, have channels on the site and you can ask them directly if there would be problem. My understanding of their Terms of Service is that, so long as it is legal to do where you are filming, you can post it on minds. You may want to put a message at the start to check the local laws in your area before attempting anything you do in your vids, but I'm fairly sure Bill and John would politely tell the South Koreans that they are free to block the videos on their end, but otherwise, pack sand. Or maybe not so politely. I don't want to speak for them. The point is, unlike KZbin, you can simply ask them. I feel much better now getting that off my chest, thanks for reading it. I too, have, shall we say, some definite views on you not being allowed to film and promulgate highly interesting videos of what is, in the US, still a perfectly legal activity. On a technical note. If one didn't have access to a welder, would those screws hold the frame together adequately?
@clintonwestwood54987 жыл бұрын
Thank you for that. I did create a user on minds.com yesterday. Haven't gone forward yet. I like your equivalent mindset. The minimal screws currently in place would probably not be enough. Although for the number I have, I usually only install 2 on the infinite number of disassembly/reassembly I do. At this point, I have no intention of welding together. But you'll have to wait:) Sorry.
@DaveSmith-cp5kj7 жыл бұрын
That is an interesting website but it has a terrible interface that may dissuade some viewers from fully seeing all the content there. The majority of stress on a frame like this is in the rails and grip. Since the rails are directly part of the grip plate, screws will work just fine. Even a proper application of slow setting epoxy would work too (difficult to get right if you aren't experienced using them however) If you plan to get serious in gunsmithing, I would absolutely advise getting a cheap 90A SMAW (Stick) welder. It won't do aluminum like here, but there are so many other builds you can't do without a welder and welders are very cheap being only about $90. If you absolutely have to penny pinch then build your own welder from scrap. Actually, if you really are serious about gunsmithing I also advise getting a mini lathe ($600+ about $100 of tooling, about the same price of a new factory firearm) since you can make a ton of builds with minimal frustration which is important for the newbie. In most cases a mini mill is not needed, but if you start building rifles rather than handguns and SMGs then you will want the precision of a mill. An SKS psuedo clone and other rifles like the M14 can be made from scratch with basically just a welder, grinder, drill press, and lathe though.

if you were to use a .22 rimfire, would the way you strip the round from the magazine cause the bullet to prematurely go off?

Cant you make one (or maybe even a few) dummy rounds? Just empty shells with a wooden rough bullit in it, to test the cycle on a safe way and for what you pointed out in the beginning of the video.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm looking at all options and suggestions from viewers.

1+ on vidme and metacafe. They seem to be the best alternative to youtube. You might do something like have teasers on an account here on youtube and have the links direct viewers to your main accounts on the other websites. Lots of the long term pyrotechnic channels here on youtube do something similar as they were of the first to be attacked by youtube.
