Amazing truly innovative, I believe that is the key, if you can make a pistol without welding is the most ideal, doable, realistic, efficient and do it yourself friendly way to go and last but not least great invention given by you to the common folk, your average humble garden variety MAN thanks you.

Thanks for the nice comments. I was looking through a box of parts yesterday and came across three former/discarded versions. I'm learning and innovating as I go. It's taking far longer than I envisioned, however, once complete, it should be a very easy and repeatable build.
@mr.spadedheart9634
@mr.spadedheart9634 4 жыл бұрын
You're sincerely welcome, and yes repeatable is really the focus, once I had watched your video for the first time just over a year ago I truly felt confident I could repeat it. Thankfully I have been able to do just that and yes with limited fancy tools as you mentioned it has been a challenge but thanks to your inspiration I now have a nicely used drill press, bench grinder and new but inexpensive arc welder. The biggest challenge was realizing at least in my opinion that the measurements on the plans are not accurate but close and I'm guessing that's for legal reasons maybe as to not give a full on instructional and have liability problems. Maybe you will be able to answer one question I have, for someone who is just starting off and has never completed a build would you say in order to get the measurements correct or at least not have to back track to much , Would making the magazine be the best part to start off with?

I would have just used the rat tail file anyway. Machines make work "easier" until you screw up. That your back to the beginning. I build custom flintlock firearms and the only power tool I have is a drill press. Im a blacksmith, so I forge what I need and punch what holes I need undersized just so I know where I'm going.

I come very late... but I think you could have left a little bit more meat for the front screw. If you have a small dent in the front it would not disturb the look or the functionality but be stronger.

Please stop using phillips screw heads . It's not a real pistol if it has phillips screw heads anywhere on the thing . You have made a masterpiece and then screwed it together with phillips screws . Please change it . Just a suggestion not a gripe ! You do you in the end and I love what you made here . I would love to see you make a rifle now . Your rifling machine is beyond great !

I love watching you builds progress. I think it was Thomas Edison who was asked how he made it through a thousand failures before getting the electric light right. I think his response was there weren’t a thousand failures, he found a thousand ways that didn’t work. We all know how spectacularly his persistence paid off.

Clinton, Congrats, and Well-wishes on 6 million views. Your work absolutely deserves it. I am finding myself watching and re-watching these videos They are really informative and really interesting. I agree that if you go slow, think carefully and are willing to redo mistakes, a quality firearm can be built with minimal tools. But, one must be prepared to read, read and read some more, do the research and ask questions. These skills are within all of us if encouraged. The inner craftsman can leak out of anyone if patience is employed. Most of all have fun. I'm hoping that these videos encourage some other inner craftsman.

Congratulations on the 6 million views. That is a great achievement. I guess you probably know this but wd-40 is a great lubricant for tools that are cutting aluminum. The wd-40 prefers the steel cutting tool and protects it from the aluminum that would stick to it. Diesel does the same thing. Thanks for the plug.

It didn't seem to work this time. The burr cutting edge is scalloped. I wonder if that had some bearing on the issue. NP on the plug. I enjoy, so hoping others will as well. Thanks for the congrats. I'm astounded.

Hi clinton. When using carbide burrs on aluminium there are burrs made specifically for aluminium that have a single spiral flute pattern rather than the cross hatch pattern ones you used. They work much faster and tend not to load up. Hopefully you see this

The solid was the initial attempt. Discarded. The "laminate" version 2 replaced it. The 2.1 is a minor revision.

Clinton, following up on 'Oneproudbrowncoat's post of a month or so ago.I'm most interested in how you approach the Firing Group. I have built up 'proof models' of Dr Parabellum's original and my suspicion's about it's geometry and spring arrangement (hammer, sear AND disconnect)seem to be born out...it just doesn't work! I've re-designed the firing group to my satisfaction, borrowing (ancient) technology from the 1911-A1and am in the process of modelling it. Keep up the good work.
@clintonwestwood5498
@clintonwestwood5498 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, I'm a little concerned. I can visualize the intent, but not sure if I can make it work. I suspect it'll be a two stage push on the disconnect. First contact to release the sear and the second push to slide the disconnect back. However, I haven't even modeled it on a board yet.
@johnmcgregor6000
@johnmcgregor6000 6 жыл бұрын
For what it's worth, I fixed up the good doctor's geometry and made it work, but then comes the spring problems! There is a hell of a long throw required for the hammer and the coiled spring as shown just doesn't cut it! John Browning's scheme of a contained compression spring with a push-rod to the hammer could be made to work for the Kolt 380. The sear and disconnect springs will also require some re-thinking. Here is a link to some excellent drawings for the 1911-A1 brlcad.org/design/drafting/M1911-A1_REDUX.pdf

Hi Clinton, what's your opinion on 3d printing a functional model of a gun and doing a lost PLA cast with those parts? Good or bad idea?
@clintonwestwood5498

Lots of extra steps. There would still be machining involved. Would accommodate more complex shapes though. For the less talented of us, stock materials and known alloys are more accurate and reliable.
