I used to operate the 3000 and 4000 komatsu excavators for yrs. I do miss it sometimes

There are 4 of these diggers on a coal site near me in s Wales uk. They been on site over 10 years now,and still going strong.

Those dump trucks are awesome, so huge. The excavator is beyond awesome, I have always wanted to learn to operate one ever since I was a kid using the sandbox lever buckets.

Very cool! 1:51 What are the three slightly remote explosions in the rear for?
@PAmining8 жыл бұрын
Good question. Those were big boulders that were too large to load that were then re-drilled and loaded with explosives and tied into the main blast to break them up.
@YensR8 жыл бұрын
Ah, that makes sense of course! Thank you!

@davidfoster77257 жыл бұрын
Katy STEVEN CLARK this machine has rock tracks, excavator and mining shovels track chains aren't designed to twist while traveling over the uneven terrain of rocks. you don't have to worry about the machine sinking here so they run these very skinny tracks to minimize the undercarriage damage

Looks like a new mine...boy how I wish they'd leave us alone and let us mine here in eastern ky....we just lost one of the cooling towers to the coal fired plant in Ashland ky..demo for natural gas upgrade. If someone don't make some big changes around here things are gonna get far worse...someone's getting robbed every min cause peoples gotta have money and they'll get it one way or another...btw one of your best all around vids...thanks justin.. hope pa is a little better
@PAmining8 жыл бұрын
Actually this mine started operation in 2000. $20 million was spent to completely upgrade the fleet between 2014-2015. P.S. better hope Trump gets in! And thanks, glad you enjoyed it! This was a fun video to shoot.
@phokjiouh596 жыл бұрын
Can't they just ask for government assistance? 1st world countries typically have a social security system so you don't have to rob your neighbors to survive. Now I understand that the South isn't part of that and that Kenntucky has the living standard and human development index of Romania but I'm sure more successful states like California would help you out. Better asking for help and trying to develop new industries than smoking meth and living of roadkill.

That was another good one. I liked the drill 'squad' and watching the shot 'walk'. The 3k is a fine machine and has a fine operator. That knothead at the local boulder hole could take some lessons from him. Smooth is good, bang/flop is not!

Thanks; glad you enjoyed it! These guys usually always do a pretty good job with their blasting.

dang that pit looks deep. How do you guys get the coal vs how they do it in say eastern kentucky with 100 foot wide pits? looks like a bit more involved here.
@PAmining8 жыл бұрын
The coal here lies in a syncline so there's constant coal extraction while mining down to the basin (bottom of coal) which is over 400ft deep. Think of this mine as operating within the shape of the letter "U". The rock face you see behind the PC3000 is called the bottom rock- that's the south wall of the syncline and what the main coal seam lies up against. A switchback road network is developed to allow access for the big equipment to reach the bottom coal.
@andrewrees87494 жыл бұрын
Here in a wales, pit near me just keeps going deeper and deeper, 16 different coal seams,I've heard.

Is that overburden? How deep is the coal normally?
@PAmining8 жыл бұрын
Yes, the 3000 loads all overburden while smaller excavators extract the coal which lies at a maximum depth of 460 feet at this mine. The coal lies in a syncline so there is continuous coal extraction as the pit progresses down
