As an owner of Komplete 13 Ultimate Collectors, it’s Black Friday, holiday sales and Summer of Sound type deals that I’ll be looking for in order to upgrade or just to shore up. They ought to have a way to be able to cherrypick amongst Expansions, Play Instruments and even Kontakt Instruments for credit and/or swapping. Because it doesn’t make sense to keep paying the ultimate price for 98-99 % of what you have already in order to be Komplete (pun intended). That makes it more economical to go alternate years at least.

Thanks Jef! For me the announcement of finally Apple Silicon support within a few weeks is the biggest announcement. Hope Maschine will get an update too with finally some GFX use of the right screen in plugins like EQ graphs and Compressor Gain reduction metering and Instrument ENV and LFO curves and such instead of the name of the plugin you're in showing in big letters while you already know you're in that plugin. That would be really wonderfull.

@@jefgibbons I'm interested to see if there will be some major changes to Komplete itself or Maschine. I'm going to watch your review of Kontakt 7 to see the new interface. I would like to see some advancements in user library options. The two areas that I focus on when considering the purchase of a product are ease of use, including a smooth interface and the ability to perform actions smoothly, and the second is minimal operations counts when performing an action. Also, the new hiDPI GUI is an attractive feature. I'd like to see some visual improvements on the Komplete/Maschine side.

Some things I couldn't wait for K14 to get, like Playbox, Empire Breaks, the 40s stuff, and several expansions. I'll be waiting for the sale next year to upgrade and finally get my hands on Lores, Sequis, Piano Colors, etc. At the upgrade price they're asking ($499), I could almost buy everything I still want at full price. My cue to wait.

I read an article recently that stated that Native Instruments has been having some financial issues lately. I don't know how much of that is true, but I usually like to wait a few months after a product drop before I go through the purchase process with them.

Two things: EVERY upgrade has something for everybody to hate, and it doesn’t always hurt to be patient every time NI drops an Expansion/Play Series/Kontakt synth (because they might show up again later). In my case, it took me forever to find value in upgrading from K10 to K13U (because I made some early a la carte pickups but stopped once I understood they would be part of the next version or later). So the value for ME is in NI’S alignment with iZotope and Plugin Alliance; I see no need for Arkhis, Lores, or the higher end orchestral stuff, so I’m more than OK with 14U when my wallet is ready. Great work as always, Jef…can’t wait to see you dig into Kontakt 7!

This is just a guess. But I don't think the bundle will be on sale this winter. Komplete 13 wasn't in november the year(2020) it was released. Only individual plugins like the one you mentions. Which I think will be 50% sale last week in november. So if you can wait for the summer sale. Or buy individual plugins in november.

At the moment I have Komplete 13 Ultimate CE and I'm very happy with the massive amount of content it has. I am a bit underwhelmed with the additional stuff that is included in 14. A lot of the added items are expansions (seems like easy money for them), some of the are really nice though (guitar additions and a choir), and still, after all these years, no native m1 support for most of their stuff (I am kinda hoping that Apple will turn off Rosetta soon so they need to upgrade or go extinct). I don't want to sound too negative because I love their stuff. I recently even bought a Komplete Kontrol. But for this 14 edition I will wait until next year when it is more reasonably priced

I really never felt happy with kontakt gui look and setup and that affected my love of the awesome instruments inside. I hope the gui is new and innovative. Like when I bought playbox.. I love playbox so much I would minimize kontakt just to get inspired more from playbox and all the play series. Plus I really do appreciate Native-instruments because an ebay seller tried to cheat me in a sell of his older used collectors edition hard drive and wouldn't send me the license after I paid for it and Native-instruments took up for me and got me on track. So now I been a collection edition user ever since. They stood right by me and I will by them.

I’m interested to see the updates to kontakt 7. Any ballpark idea of the upgrade price from 6 to 7? Figures, I just bought K6 a month ago. It would be super cool if there was an update to allow you to put your third party kontakt instruments in the sidebar, along with the rest of your native kontakt instruments, instead of having to make a favorites folder in the instrument nav window. Like you Jeff, I've been hooked on Native Instruments stuff since almost the beginning, 1999 I think it was when I got Reaktor 2 which is still one of my favorite versions. And yeah, I don't know if its just my mood lately or what, but I agree the Ultimate is looking very exciting, maybe the best one yet. Though I'm not sure I like the sounds of Playbox that much, I'm still pretty hyped about it, it still looks both enormously fun and usefull and I think you or someone mentioned that you can load your own sounds and that sounds like it could be totally mind blowing, imagine all the samples you have with the Maschine expansions you could chuck in there, plus what I like to do is make my own samples. I'm hoping in the future they will have expansions for Playbox for different kinds of vibes, I feel its a bit too soundtrack oriented for me, but it seems there's no reason it has to sound like that. I'm hoping you could just get the most warped weird multi-layered jazz hip-hop funk things around going on with it. Ozone too, I used the demo maybe 10 years ago or so and really loved it but it always seemed just slightly more than wanted to pay. I wonder what new features they've addedsince then, and I like the company that does Ozone they have many good things, so I trust that Ozone actually has gotten even better. Also, as far as 14 Ultimate, there's some console simulator plugs as well I think that looked very usefull and interesting and yeah who isn't a sucker for the expansions and there are so many new and excellent ones. I'm going to have wait until its all available at 50% off though, tough times. But as I recall they usually have kind of a flash holiday season 5 day sale every year, seems to me I've gotten in on those in the past, if thats not just wishful thinking, waiting till the holidays is almost not too long, I so want 14 now!

I'm with you there, I think it should be a little more scaled depending on which version you're coming from, or offer a voucher if you just got one of the new things (like Ignition Keys). You could argue that there is still a ton of value but it's the customer's perception that would matter the most in these cases... you want happy customers!

Jef - your honesty and integrity is second to none and rare on KZbin. There’s good stuff in 14. I like the additional guitars, Playbox, the 40 Very Own, Ignition Keys and the expansions. I already picked up the BX stuff with some hardware I bought, and I’ve tried the mastering tools and wasn’t impressed - so there’s not much for me in the plugins. The Update is $259 CAD for me. I’m in no rush as I’m still learning K13, but if a 50% deal comes along I’ll likely upgrade to K14. Thanks for highlighting the new stuff and the differences. 😎

It would be a good upgrade from 12 or earlier, but I’m on 13 CE and can’t justify it unfortunately. Maybe if summer of sound happens next June. Dynamic upgrade pricing would be nice too for those who’ve bought new products between releases. I say this as I bought Playbox, Ashlight and Action Strings 2 already. Either that or credits for new things in 14 we’ve already paid for. Anyway - assuming Kontakt 7 is on sale like most new stuff is when it comes out, I might just buy that. We’ll see. Every next iteration of Komplete is better than the last, but that being said, as someone who just updated to K13U during the Summer of Sound, there's not enough here for me to bother! I'm in Canada and for me the update is $519, which is really steep. There are no new effects and only a handful of new instruments, and I already have pretty much all of the good expansions that were rolled into Komplete this time around. So I'll probably just pick and choose specific items from K14U I like and try to find cheap second-hand licenses for those. Hope K15U is more significant of an upgrade to justify its cost.

I've had the Kontakt 6 player forever. I thought SampleTank 4 SE was gonna be "the thing" to fill the bread & butter role but it didn't work out (I've come to grips with it.) Kontakt 7 with a factory library might just be what I was looking for all along..I remember buying VI One long ago. That didn't do it for me at all lol I guess I was trying everything but upgrading kontakt for price reasons. We'll see....

My next wish for Kontakt 7 (after resizable/scalable UI!) is to have one way of browsing instruments in a nice graphical format. Not having half in the library tab and the other half browsing the files tab! I always forget what I have in the files section! Lets hope this version delivers! It might end up getting crazy in terms of number of instruments, but I do sometimes wish each kontakt library would show up the DAW as it's own plugin. Again, it's easy to forget about the depth of Kontakt when browsing lists of instrument plugins in your DAW

That sounded wrong... I guess a dealbreaker in the sense that it will be the best sampler out there if the Factory Library comes with all of the basic sounds you would need to cover a huge range of genres. I find so many other samplers out there don't even have a good upright bass etc and it seems like a no-brainer that that would be the number one priority! I love the old Factory Library and I'm hopeful that the new one will be a go-to source for good sounding meat and potatoes patches!

It's worth it for me I have k13 standard. If I bought piano colors the guitars series and Alicia's keys and one other pack I want I'm at 750ish usd so I plan to upgrade k14 ultimate for 399usd not to mention it'll give me Kontakt 7 plus all those expansions I don't need them but the amount of bang for my buck is crazy. Still waiting for Black Friday though just incase but even if everything half out it'll Still be cheaper at least for me 🤷🏿‍♂️

But now after more information, I am a little bit disappointed that it's mostly are "new" expansions and only one new instrument. Kontakt 7 is great, but it's nothing I really need now. @@issiewizzie NI buried Absynth and its 21-year-old sound designer community + tons of great sounds. Getting rid of old programs is a constant for NI. If it doesn't sell kill it.

@@oblomurg it depends on how one views plugins ... keep in mind to get the most out of the synth plugins one needs to invest time learning the stuff. I'm actually going back to rediscover Reaktor - Kontour/Rounds and polyplex now Playbox

Haven't heard anything about that so I doubt it... My biggest complaint is that the browser results are SOOOO tiny when you search in KK... Room for 4 patches sometimes!! I thought it was a mistake at first...

I find this whole the Plugin Alliance/Izotope/NI thing a bit disappointing. I'm paying for things I already own and in some cases I still have to pay for the update and or the upgrade. Example= I upgraded my Izotope Everything bundle to get Ozone 10 Advance and Rx Standard for $199.Now I have to pay $149 to upgrade to Rx Advanced. y $350.Why make me pay $350 to upgrade Ozone 9 Advance And Rx 9 Advance which are include the Everything Bundle? Not to mention I own Komplete 13 CE and plan to update to Komplete 14 CE.Don't get me started on PA stuff I have purchased this year alone.

I believe everything works on the latest OS as long as you're not on a Mac with M2, M1 Max, or M1 Pro. If you're on Intel or M1 with Rosetta, they should work. On my M1 Max, Maschine instantly crashes, KK instantly crashes, Kontakt works in some daws, everything else is hit-or-miss. The expansions are solid as always across a bunch of devices.

This is the first time since Komplete 4 that I’m not going to upgrade. Its lacking for me. I have most ozone software. I sub to plugin alliance. I have some of the maschine expansions(I pick them up every time they have a sale) and the rest I don’t care about. I rarely use Kontact instruments and there are too many Massive expansions. Massive wont run on my computer unfortunately. NI used to be very synth innovative and I feel it isn’t anymore, its just more sample based instruments.
