Kone Lift in Next, Oxford

A short and rather bad video of this lift. This lift has three landings (B, G and 2), B and G are store levels, 2 is the staff/stock room level. (Level 1 is the first floor of the adjacent River Island store, read below for more information).
Many years ago, this whole building housed a Co-op department store. When the department store closed, the building was split into different store units, which the Co-op leased out. This Next store however remained as a Co-op supermarket (with a convenience store on G, and the main supermarket on B) until the late 90's, when it was leased out to Next. The store next door (Currently River Island, formally Virgin/Zavvi) occupies the first floor of the building (with a small ground floor entrance) as this was how Co-op split the building. The main stores in this building all have their stock rooms on the 2nd floor (even the ground floor only Superdrug around the corner from next), as this is the old department store warehouse. The loading bay for the shops is on Market St (Visible on StreetView as the closed rollerdoor to the left of Superdrug). The loading bay has a pair of Evans goods lifts.

Yes, the Midcounties Cooperative own the building, and this Next used to be a Co-op supermarket. There was an Evans hydraulic lift where this Kone is in it's supermarket days. I think the Co-op replaced the lift and extended it up to the 2nd floor wearhouse before Next moved in (the old evens olny seved the two store levels).

@Alex Ellis I think Co-op (who own the building) fitted this lift after they closed their supermarket here, but before Next moved in. Which is why this isn't an Oakland lift.

I don't know the motor and speed even makes me think its now ecodisc powered but if you note those buttons were changed 2 years ago with the bottom section of the panel when they were made to realise it had no embossed buttons as per normal next policy so they changed them and its so much better, staff agree to but I think that motor was changed a year or two ago as it use to be traction or hydraulic but now has the familiar ecodisc noise with the faster speed.

It isn’t the building has been demolished anyway the lift was a nice kone built in 2000 so it’s sad they took this lift away

Yep, this had been demolished. When I was younger this used to be a co-op supermarket, with a convenience store on the ground floor and a supermarket in the basement. The lift was something generic back then.
