This Anthem is the Royal Danish Anthem (one of the two national anthems in Denmark). It celebrates HM King Christian IV (born 1577) and naval heroes Niels Juel and Peter 'Tordenskiold' Wessel . The lyrics were created by Danish poet Johannes Ewald in 1778. So, yes - it's quite old :)

@kasperjuliussen79314 жыл бұрын
icedogfan1 “Der er et yndigt land” (there is a lovely country) composed by Adam Oehlenschläger in 1819. It is written after the bombardment of Copenhagen in 1807, which led to the kingdom of Denmark going bankrupt in 1813 resulting in the loss of Norway to the Swedish crown in 1814. So we needed a song about how lovely our country was and would continue to be;)
@MiliGuy904 жыл бұрын
@@kasperjuliussen7931 Not to mention we lost the naval Battle of Copenhagen in 1801 and after bombarding our capitol in 1807, the British stole the entire Danish fleet, effectively ending our position as a north european power. The nationalist/imperialist ways of old died out pretty quick after all that, so we turned to more romantic notions in stead.

@@Happy-oj8tc well the song was written In 1779, so i dont think, Johannes Ewald took a random slavic group into consideration, when writting this song. Also every source literly says that Goter is another Word for a Swede, also when you search the Word on Google it also says some stuff about Sweden.
@thebegungler73332 жыл бұрын
It is obviously referring to the Goths/Geats, the inhabitants of Götaland, which has made up the southern part of the Swedish kingdom since they united in pre-medieval times. For a long time the title of Swedish kings included the name of both Swedes and Geats. In the Swedish coat of arms we see the symbols of a lion and of three crowns, the crowns represent Sweden and the lion represents Götaland. So it is logical that the lyrics would use that word to describe the enemy when the enemy is Sweden.

A large proportion of the crew and officers in this new Navy organisation were Norwegian. In 1709 there were about 15,000 personnel enrolled in the common fleet; of these 10,000 were Norwegian. When Tordenskjold carried out his famous raid at Dynekil in 1716 more than 80 percent of the sailors and 90 percent of the soldiers in his force were Norwegian. .. -Danke-

From the battle of Kolberger Heide. The danish and swedish navy fought eachother to a draw. During the battle the king was wounded in his eye. And his men believed he was dead. He rose and continued to lead his men from his ship Trefoldigheden. This picture is depicting this incident from the battle.

Why does this man represent the monarchy's anthem? He lost the Danish dominance to Sweden.
@ravnen25 Жыл бұрын
Because the song is a tribute to dano norwegian naval heroes. Not kings, if you listen its Christian 4th, Niels Juel, and Tordenskjold.
@fridrekr75106 ай бұрын
Because Christian IV was very good at PR and made a lot of buildings in Copenhagen which made him famous. If we really had to pick the most successful and glorious Danish king, we would have to go further back to Canute the Great or the Valdemars, but almost nobody remember the old Medieval kings who were the actual national heroes. But then again, Danish national mythology revolves more around the glorious defeat than the early success and dominance.
