It’s been like 10 years since I found Kongos and “Escape” was my and my BFF’s favourite song. We would plan or just imagine different things we’re going to do in our lives as adults. Where we could escape to. We were always together, not as couple, but true friends. We had this bond that happens once in a lifetime, the one that you just know you’re soulmates. Unfortunately he passed away this year at the age of 25 💔 I’ve been out of country and we haven’t seen each other for about 4 years in real life… I didn’t get a chance to say goodbye. I can’t change anything now, but I just wish I could spend more time with you… I hope you escaped to some really nice, beautiful place, K. Goodbye.

Went to see KONGOs Sept 30, 2017...! Cold night in Cleveland, Ohio and fewer than 200 fans present. But these wonderful, super musicians played like they were playing for 20k. They must have seen the joy in this 65-year-old leaning and rockin' on his cane happy as hell...! And knew they were appreciated.

This song makes me get the best feeling. When it starts, I calm down and become engulfed by the simplicity. Then right when Jesse starts playing at 0:49, my heart skips a beat and my chest tightens. I get the feeling of extreme euphoria, but there's a hint of sadness behind it. It's even better seeing them perform this song live since I'm surrounded by the music. It's honestly the weirdest feeling, but I love it.

Escape Every few thousand years Come true man's greatest fears All the living things Mother nature brings to tears When the bombs are bursting in the air And the rockets are making that red glare I'm heading down Down to that good hope town, where the weather's fair So why don't you come away With me my love We'll do what it takes I'll keep you safe Why don't you stay by me And when the time comes We'll escape When the big one finally hit's LA When Yellowstone has it's day We're heading to the southern tip On a plane or on a ship We'll do what it takes, we'll find a way And if that cloud forms up above No sign anywhere of a dove There'll be no reason left to stay We'll try and live another day In a place where there's still love So why don't you come away With me my…

A few years ago (3-4) I discovered Kongos. Listened to both their albums, especially the first one a lot of times until I moved on to other bands. Fast forward to 2019, I'm listening to one of my newer favorite bands The Joy Formidable on shuffle and one very familiar song starts playing. What are the odds that they made a cover of this song and I would come across it... It's good to listen to you guys again after all this time.
