Konica S/SII - The next flagship cameras after the Konica IIIM

As you say, it's crazy how these mechanical wonders are so undervalued compared to later models. Good for us, although buying vintage camera bargains is too addictive!

Great Review, Thanks to your review, I recently purchased a Konica SII, such a fine piece of machinery. Though the drop down looks prettier, it has been removed in SII to accomodate "an illumination window" above selenium meter to make the viewfinder brighter. This is listed as a feature in Konica SII Manual. Maybe in lowlight SII viewfinder is better than S? Also, Red is Colour Positive Film and Blue is for Colour Negative Film, as per manual.

Hi, thanks for the nice comment. Also thanks for the information about the colours for the film types. Unfortunately I don't have a manual for this camera. The S probably is a little prettier, but there isn't much in it. I'm very lucky with my SII as it is in excellent condition and the meter works perfectly after all these years. Hi Howard, lovely camera, Konica's seem to be so underrated. Quick thought about the film reminder dial. Blue for daylight balanced colour, red for tungsten?

Decently built camera, but not in the same class as its predecessor IIIA or IIIM. Price competition dictated as continuing decline in build quality for consumer cameras from all makers after this time.

Sad but true, however ergonomically it's much better than the earlier cameras, and optically just as good. So you're right, build quality has inevitably fallen, but an excellent camera is the result. Mine has a working meter and this is one of my favourite shooters. Cheers, Howard 📷
