I recently rewatched all the Nitro episodes and Lugar did alot of heavy lifting for WCW as a baby face against NWO before joining NWO. Not judging, but while Sting was chilling in the rafters, Luger had alot of matches. And watch the crowd, people were cheering for him. He is very under appreciated by a lot of folks.

Thank you. People are FINALLY saying what I've been saying my whole life. Luger turned the tide against the Giant at Starrcade '96, and he carried it all the way through beating Hogan in August '97. Not only did he beat the Giant, but he brought him back to WCW in their tag team to the point the Giant stepped aside for Luger to get the win that got him the title shot. He had half the intended push of Sting that year and became neck and neck with him off of it.

Yea Lugar was SUPER over in 95-97. I wish he could have gotten a longer run with the belt instead of 6 days

@@thesupervisor3270 These comments are making my day. I was going to bring up 95-96 but I didn't want to go on too long. Even as a Luger fan, I know his character work was not always on point, but his tweener 95-96 character is about as good as anything I've seen in 40 years. He was tv and tag champ, wasn't showing up for world title matches, Sting yelling at him all the time, accepting chicago street fights with the Road Warriors because he didn't know what a chicago street fight was. It was such a glorious time.

Lex luger has been my all time favorite wrestler since 1990. So terribly underrated and underappreciated forever. He deserves much better than the reputation he has from the internet wrestling community

I don't know if they're still a little hesitant due to the misinformation that was being reported with Miss Elizabeth's death, (I doubt it since WWE did all the stuff you mentioned) but like others said, he could have declined, since he doesn't move around very well anymore.

Not even close. He was as over in '97 as Bret Hart (who was having the most over year of his career), Steve Austin, and Sting. Unbelievably underrated.

That's unfair to blame Steiner for the Bagwell injury, the person doing the bulldog is not supposed to hold onto the guy's head as he does it so there's nothing Steiner did incorrectly. It was a freak accident

A little off topic, but I'm surprised Lex was never the WWF Champ. I know when they wanted to put the belt on him, the fans wanted Bret Hart, but with Vince's love for that body type, I'm surprised he wasn't made champ before 94. Vince had to figure he could make Luger into another Hogan.

The fans never wanted Bret. It was Bret hart crying backstage that Vince promised him the belt in 93 and they did the Lex Express and Bret got bitter and they changed the finish to count out. So they had that ridiculous celebration even after not winning the belt because they changed the finish 2 days before Luger was supposed to win. Bret was mid card talent at best.

luger didn't have to talk his way in to positions. he was the best looking big guy to come out of that mid-80s Hulk Hoganesque types. he was pushed to the moon in his first stop in florida cause he looked like a million bucks, he got a huge contract and push in JCP because of that look. when they became wcw Jim Herd had a huge hardon for him (and sting). he was a product of his times and by the mid-90s he could find himself in significant spots because he had 12-years in main events spots under his belt

Listening to Disco talk about Lex, I honestly can’t remember a single clean job he did in WCW. Maybe the Giant ONCE. Otherwise his matches with Hogan and Savage always ended in DQ, or he went over on them. His feud with Savage in 95 was great. And honestly Lex held his own with Macho.

I believe what konan says but i think Steiner was lying to him and genuinely at the time went to that ring with a bad attitude. I think later on he felt bad and told konan exactly what he thought konan needed to hear so they could stay cordial. Just a thought. Glad they are cool now

It's hilarious how they tried to dodge criticism of Rick Steiner stiffing Konnan into blame of Lex Luger. 😂 Luger wasn't throwing punches upside your head, it was Rick. Just say you don't want smoke from Rick, and be done with it.
