Powerlifting like this should be an Olympic sport. Raw lifting must be the rule. It is awe inspiring for me to see a champion like Konstantinovs reach the pinnacle of human power out of sheer determination. Everyone young man in the world who has ever lifted a weight should be inspired by this. With so many people in hundreds of countries of the world benching, squatting and deadlifting, it is a shame that the Olympics do not have such a pure strength event. It would be awesome, indeed.

A few salient points: This technically is still the beltless RAW world record. Also, KK did this in a full meet, having already benched and squated. Benny's 1015 was a deadlift only competition. Both lifts equally as extraordinary in their own way.
@Dmoriarty19935 ай бұрын
I prefer this due to his lower bodyweight. Insane strenght.

i dont care how rounded his back is 900+ lbs w/ or w/o a belt is fucking is unreal, props, nice lift.
@DrGreenthumb1169 жыл бұрын
rounded upper back makes the range of motion shorter. no1 who lifts over 800 pounds has their shoulders retracted.
@aakashsunil79133 жыл бұрын
@@DrGreenthumb116 5 years late, but rounded upper back doesn't shorten the ROM - you have to straighten your back at the top. Also, no good deadlifter retracts their shoulder blades - they keep it neutral whereas KK rounds his upper back on purpose.
@Tombalino3 жыл бұрын
A flexioned lower spine is where it becomes particularly dangerous, but guys like KK have thick lower back muscle and so it can give the illusion of their spine rounding when in fact their spine is neutral underneath.
@jakubkrcma14 жыл бұрын

@dusanzivic42343 жыл бұрын
Greatest lift of all time for sure.
@ZachGatesHere11 жыл бұрын
That's intentional form, not "bad form". It's his technique to maximize his leverages. Notice how in his setup he gets into that position. His lower spine stays perfectly neutral which is where the problems would be if we were talking "bad form". Konsti's form, for his body, is FLAWLESS. You could write an article analyzing it. Everything is done 100% intentionally. And how can you say it's "bad"? He broke the all-time beltless pull record!!
@MatteoFitness9 ай бұрын
bad form can be intentional but yes your point is valid.

rounding of the upper back is advised when deadlifting as it allows to get into a tighter position at the bottom without sacrificing lower back tightness and angle on the ascent
@onLYbyM7 жыл бұрын
How can someone learn it? I need to know because I have long femurs and short arms :(
@nickkraw17 жыл бұрын
onLYbyMoon First dramatically increase hamstring and spinal erector flexibility over a month or two. Then practice setting up leaning on the bar instead of pulling on it. Have a mirror beside you to check your setup. Once your upper back is rounded and lower back is slightly extended, pull. Keep practicing until you get it with light weight so you don't hurt yourself. After your technique is solid increase weight over time up to your capacity. Remember to switch which side the mirror is on every set or so, so you don't get neck problems. At least that's how I learned to lift this way. My favourite hamstring stretches were the wall sequence and just bending over with a relaxed back and straight legs, and deep breathing.
@onLYbyM7 жыл бұрын
Nick Kraw Wow!! That's some gold info right there! Will do this after my current weight cycle. Thanks a million.
@nickkraw17 жыл бұрын
I would start stretching long in advance before you try the deadlift technique because it takes time to gain flexibility safely without tearing anything.

I think for most people the single biggest obstacle to deadlifting without any equipment is that your hands and forearms aren't anywhere near as strong to hold on to as much weight as the rest of your body is capable of moving. It's truly astounding to me that he does this no straps. Imagine shaking the hand of a man who can hold on to over 900 pounds with just his fingers...I think he'd be able to break just about anything he got his incredibly powerful hands on. Amazing.

@millenniumevil11 жыл бұрын
Indeed. I've looked up and found an interview with him where he was asked about his form. He explains that because he always had very strong back and hamstrings this form allows him to utilize these muscles more thus resulting in heavier lifts. Konstantinovs also points there that if done properly this form won't result in injures. P.S. His bench press is also considered unusual by many because of the close grip

@valgez I'm no big fan of the bench either, but when the clean and press was still a part of competition, olympic weightlifters did bench as it helped increase their press numbers. The bench is the best exercise for displaying raw upper body srength, and the standing press is the best exercise to display functional upper body strength. It's easy to see how how they complement each other. It's not that the bench is a bad exercise, it's just that most people don't overhead press enough.
@alexandertait14 жыл бұрын
That is awesome. Just out of interest how much do people get out of wearing a deadlift suit?
@reeceyfezza11 жыл бұрын
Problems arise when you round your lumbar. Thoracic rounding is fine and MANY lifters use it because it allows them to pull more.
