Hello my lovelies!!
I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night with a flash of inspiration! Sometimes it is complete nonsense but sometimes it makes a bit of sense! This is one of those times hopefully and you will see me test the lovely Flashe Paint against the humble tester pots of emulsion.
I hope you enjoy!

I can't believe this! I've just discovered the Flashe paints a week ago, ordered them, and today I received them and played all evening. Then this pops up on my KZbin page! Great minds think alike 😂 Out of all the "acrylic gouaches" they are by far the most economical. Golden SoFlat, liquitex, Holbein acryla, turner, Vallejo.... They are all soooo much more expensive per ml and they mostly come in 20ml containers. So I'm not terribly unhappy with the price. This house paint seems like a great alternative for flat color or some abstract stuff. I do painterly but realistic work and these are not going to mix, feel and behave like Flashe. They're definitely not as finely ground and there's fillers in them. Also, house paint usually dries super fast, I think that'd be an issue. While writing this way too long comment I did think of an use for the house paint. Sort of like a pastel ground for oil pastels. I'll have to try that! Now I'm done. Great video, thanks for sharing your little experiment!

Thanks for the comment! It is definitely worth using the emulsion paint testers for me as all the acrylic gouache paints I have don’t work as well with pencils as the vinyl emulsion Flashe paint. I love the Flashe paint and I imagine it has much better pigments but if you are on a budget trying out the tester pots is a way to see if it works for you without shelling out a lot of money. On the issue of drying - both paints dried in a similar timeframe and felt exactly the same to the touch :) Thanks also for the idea about using it as a base for pastels! Great idea and another thing I will try out :) I’m really pleased you enjoyed the video :)

I like my vinyl paint a lot but yes the price point is crazy, especially since you don't water it down like gouache. I have resorted to buying a split primary set and mix to produce colors but would love other options. However as a person who does a lot of animals in my coloring books (my favorite themes) I am always looking for ways to get light on dark for fur and I have to say that Flashe performed better than the Tester Pot in your test. I will however try them. You have a new subscriber, your love for Flashe alone makes me want to follow you, not enough us out there.

Thanks for sharing this interesting comparison. Having recently bought some paint testers some companies are putting them out as a jumbo marker with a roller at the end. These do work well on paper too but are quite expensive. I suppose it depends what you want them for. I like the fact that you can draw over the top. I am really enjoying your channel and think the lighting was fine. Keep up the good work.

Yees!! I look forward to give these another go. Paints (especially waterproof) that works with colour pencils are so underrated and it feels like it's an undiscovered territory by most paint manufacturers. I had to do a quick test with these yesterday after watching Irit Landgraf's video and my jaw dropped!! I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be when I first tried them, I actually felt underwhemled. I only got the small 'starter' set but looking back I probably just didn't like the limited mixes I could get. I was thinking about trying Turner acrylics/Holbein acrylic gouache next but these would be a more affordable option. It's like you said, it depends on what you compare it to. A 125ml jar runs for ~€11-14 here 🙂As a comparison: Liquitex 59ml heavy body runs from €9, and Golden acrylic runs from €11. Thank you for this lovely demonstration!

You are very welcome and I’m pleased that you enjoyed the demo :). I love the Flashe paints - so good for pencil work on top. I just recently discovered another paint that works well with pencil ( maybe not as well but well enough) and that is the super cheap Pebeo Matt Acrylic which comes in a small bottle similarly sized to Golden Fluid Acrylic. It is quite chalky but works well :). Have fun with your paints! ☺️

Do you have a video on how to use household paint and and the type of finishes you recommend to be used instead of gesso? I’m still learning and the recommended supplies are really expensive ❤❤

I do have a video where I try tester pots of ordinary emulsion :) Some supplies are quite expensive - you are right! White emulsion is a good call to use instead of gesso. When I was an art technician we used to emulsion over canvases to reuse them. (I worked in a college and so there were always lots to paint over) :) ❤️
