Hello my lovelies!
Part 3 of the journal wrap - the finish and admire part.
We add in the lining and a fastening.
Go see Part 1 for the beginning! • Kooky Tutorial - SLOW ...
Part 2 is here: • Kooky Tutorial - SLOW ...
You will need:
Felt
Wadding
Two materials to use at front and inner
Scraps of gloriousness to cover your wrap with
Thread
Needle
Scissors
Beads
Sequins
Embellishments
I use a wool blend felt which has a high percentage of wool and I recommend that. I order my felt from Paper and String:
www.paper-and-...
Craft felt is not strong enough to hold all the stitches and may start to fall apart so I don’t recommend it in this project unless you can get a really good quality one. If you are allergic to wool then maybe a thin cotton wadding would work also.
Cotton thread used:
DMC COTON PERLE 8
ANCHOR PERLE COTTON
AURIFIL 12 and 50

Thank you for this beautiful * journey* . I needed this. The last couple of months have been very stressful and this, my friend, has helped me sooooo much. I love the way you let people know that we can do whatever the heck we want and it will turn out beautifully. The stitching you have done is so soothing and pure inspiration for me. I suppose what I'm trying to say is THANK YOU for being you and letting everyone know that who we are is just how we are supposed to be and we are all *OK* Just call me the newest member of the Magpie Wobble Gang. Again ..... Thank you.

I just discovered your channel and love,love,love your work.! However in this tutorial you use aurifil 50 wt cotton and call it strong. Just to prove a point, take a 15-20" strand and test how easily it snaps, now compare it to one strand of cotton embroidery floss or a good all-purpose sewing thread.I won't use the 50 weight on ANYTHING I want to last ! So many quilters are believing the hype and eventually their project's failure to reach any longevity will be evident.(not to mention how costly it is to begin with)
@KoolKookyKreatures
@KoolKookyKreatures Жыл бұрын
Hi Julie - thank you 🥰. I’m quite new to the Aurifil threads ( this 50 wt one came in a set from Kate Jackson from the Last Homely House). I always advocate that you should use what you have or enjoy using. Sometimes I like to make the thread stand out but this time I wanted something that would blend in. I can appreciate that this thread would not be as strong as a 12 weight. I shall test it against the cotton embroidery thread and see how it compares. Thank you for taking the time to let me know. 🥰❤️

I have loved this series. I am nearly ready for stage 3, but I would like to add more bling. But I cant reallly find any in my small town. Not worth buying from the US because I am in Canada and the postage is terrible. I will have to look further to add more. I also think I add more later on when the whole thing is put together with light stitching. Thank you so much. This seems to me to be the best style for me, both in colour and texture.

❤❤❤Oh my goodness this turned out to be so gorgeous and rich-looking, just stunning, really!! I absolutely LOVE it!! I thought you were very brave to jump in and stitch the inner before you had finished the outer. Since the stitching tends to shrink the pieces (maybe at a different rate, since you were stitching to felt for the outer and batting for the inner), have you ever had an issue with the inner being too large or too small for your completed outer? Being less brave than you are, I was thinking that I could stitch the inner without flapping over the raw edges, which would give me a little leeway when it came time to turn them under. I hope this makes sense. Great, GREAT job!!❤❤❤

@KoolKookyKreatures Жыл бұрын
Hi Robin - I know exactly what you mean but luckily I have not had a problem (so far) with them not matching up. There always seems to be a little “give” in the shrinkage which has worked to my advantage I think 🥰❤️. So pleased you enjoyed the end product! Happy stitching and I would love to see what you make 🥰

@KoolKookyKreatures
@KoolKookyKreatures Жыл бұрын
Hi Susan :). Have a look at part one as that one shows you the start of making which includes the inner part. Part two is to do with the decorating and this part is the finishing. The stitch you need is a simple running stitch which is used all over the inner. Hope that is helpful to you and that you enjoy having a go at making your own 🥰❤️

Here I am again...lol' MY biggest pr0blem is stitching the very first running stitches and trying to keep the lines straight ! How long does it take to get the stitch lines straight without using a ruler ? I am sure that it all depends on the person . And lots of practice. Just made me feel better to ask. I have just discovered your channel and am loving your use of bright colours. I just watched this series of videos for the journal wrap and have a question I am hoping you will answer for me. When you first started this wrap, you placed 2 layers of felt together before adding the fabric scraps - is the underneath layer smaller than the top layer? If so, how much smaller? I noticed in the 3rd video that showing attaching the inner to the outer that the felt had been blanket stitched. Is the outer felt layer folder over the bottom felt layer and stitched or is it just the top felt layer that you have blanket stitched? Sorry for the long comment, I am a newbie to this form of stitching so any help you can provide would be much appreciated. Anne
@KoolKookyKreatures
@KoolKookyKreatures 10 ай бұрын
Hi there. The first layer was the inner which is a piece of fabric with thin quilt wadding. Then there is the outer which is fabric and felt. The outer and inner fabrics are a bit bigger than the felt and the wadding so they can be turned over. When both are finished you put them together and blanket stitch through the whole lot. Or you could blanket stitch each (the inner and the outer) and then stab stitch them together at the end.
