I had this comic as a kid and it's one of my clearest childhood memories for some reason. There was a Kool-Aid contest in conjuction with these comics that had a map and I believe there were supposed to be 3 keys hidden in the drawings on the map. Kids had to find the drawings of the 3 keys, circle them on the map, and mail it in to be entered into the contest and win the toys in Kool-Aid Man's vault. My neighborhood friends and I would spend hours looking for the keys and talking about how we were gonna win. Thanks for the amazing trip down memory lane, Chris!

I was just thinking about that map and the contest about a week ago, but I couldn't remember as many details as you recounted. Just that it was a cool poster, almost like the Candyland board. Then, strangely enough, this video popped up on my feed today. Maybe sometimes the universe IS listening, and it's trying to get me to drink Kool-Aid again.

I don't understand how there's more than 1 issue of Kool-Aid man.

I guess Kool-Aid Man was pretty popular at the time, which is impressive for a anthropomorphic glass jug of Cherry Kool-Aid that is famous for helping thirsty kids while causing a lot of property damage.

I've always wanted to see Kool aid man vs Macho man in an "oh yeah" competition. I drank more than my fair share of Kool aid and snapped into many a slim jim back in the day

The Marvel run on Kool-Aid man is vastly superior. The Archie run doesn't even involve the thirsties. My favorite issue is the second one where he goes back in time to the Boston Tea Party.

You wouldn't think there could be that many stories about Kool-Aid Man quenching kids' thirst, would you? But with 8 issues and about 2 stories per book, apparently there were 16 tales that needed to be told.

I love these oddball comics. Obviously it was for kids, but were kids really seeking out the next Kool-Aid Man comic book? And how many stories can you build around kids being thirsty? Nice stunt, being splashed with water. Good thing you went with water and not Kool-Aid. That would have been horribly sticky. You would have been eaten by ants.

Those Go-Bots that were available from the Kool-Aid Vault were originally Wendy's Kids Meal toys.

I had the intellivision Kool Aid Man game in the early 1980s. They marketed the hell out of Kool Aid. Btw, the lady who splashed you has the cutest voice :)

How did Scorch's footprints have a frontwards "S" in the middle? His shoes have a frontwards "S" so they should leave a backward "S" print. Must be magical.

The cool-aid man was/is certainly iconic enough for the countless cameos in popular shows and such, but a dedicated comic series seems like a bit much.

I once was sending lurid (consensual) text messages to a girl and she responded with “SPLOOSH.” Now when I hear that word I’ll think of Kool Aid Man.

Should these kinds of characters have their own comics? Maybe not always but man, the eighties had the coolest product mascots. Kool-Aid Man, the California Raisins, and the Noid are not just mascots for their respective products. They, along with Spuds McKenzie, are the mascots of that decade. I'm no champion of capitalism, but seriously, people in marketing were super-creative back then and had a knack for coming up with characters or developing existing ones into something that absurdly embodied the zeitgeist. I still have all the California Raisins Hardee's released, and I love them.
