Nas has the lyricism of Rakim, the awareness of Chuck D, the wordplay of Kool G Rap, the metaphors of Big Daddy Kane, the knowledge of KRSONE, the storytelling of Slick Rick, the longevity of LL Cool J and the versatility to do a great album with Damian Marley. And he sums it all up when he coined half man, half amazing!

Word. That is imo also a top-10 verse in hip hop history". One other is Opio's verse in Souls of Mischief's - "Make Your Mind Up". That whole song is top-100 track in hip hop but that 2nd verse Opio drops gives me chills similar to Kool G's opening verse. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYqqinikaLBgeaM go to 1:21 in that song. Opio's verse in 1993 and Kool G in 1995. Both top-10 verses imo based on time historically and technicality.

This whole song is a display of excellence. First and second verses are both incredible. Then when you think it can’t get any better they do the back and forth for the 3rd verse. Even the way they did the video and came down the stairs together for the 3rd verse is crazy. Plus the sample for the beat sounds lavish and it has a great chorus that emphasis that. This record is a all around 10/10. It’s not talked about enough.

This song is a prime example when it comes to the art of lyricism vs rap nowadays. Hearing MC's like Nas, Ghostface, Ras Kass, Scarface, Big Pun, Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, Canibus, Big L....they always left me amazed on how intricate their rhymes, flows, & thought patterns were , on some straight up superiour ability to paint pictures with plain words. Nowadays the art of rhyming is non existend & replaced with marketing yourself as a brand, a bankable product relying on an easy to digest cookie cutter formula for the masses. The soul has been replaced with cliché image driven caricatures...Hip hop needs to snatch its essence back from their white CEO's & consumers & remember where the heart of this art beats.

Man I miss this type of music so much. I remember being a young kid and just being amazed how well these guys from hoods all over the u.s we’re able to do eloquently put together words and rhymes. It was literally like an art. It’s not easy to rhyme like this and make everything flow so nicely on beat and these guys made it seem so easy.

You read my thoughts EXACTLY! I thought the same way in the 90s. Hip hop was like a new music form that blew me away. I was amazed at how people , put rhymes and lyics, in perfect harmony with the beats and flows. I then became an Hip hop addict, all the way to the mid 2000s, when the music began it's decline. Now, it sounds like garbage.
