Tom, I never miss a video of yours. It's almost enough to tear me away from my non-stop involvement in RC. Almost! Back before this fantastic era of beautiful already built RC models I LOVED a balsa build. But I can never go back now. I actually developed an allergy to balsa dust. Funny - other wood dust doesn't bother me but balsa is like breathing an ant colony!

the three or four flights prior to the final fly got TOP MARKS imo. plane sails aloft,circles round to the left, completes the circle, and then circles to the right to bring it home. the delicacy, the symmetry, the sheer beauty of this...................... speechless. well played

Grew up in the Sandy Hogan, Fubar area. Right to Left transition was standard. The reasoning, right power climb would overcome the engines torque, that way the model wouldn't screwing

The Korda Victory is a graceful flier with terrific climb and good pitch stability. I've built/flown the Easy Built kit and it never fails to impress. Ungainly looking, but a terrific flier. This video was a real treat. Thank you.

Another wonderful video! Year ago-like 15 years- I was in the checkout line at Harbor Freight (also know as "Horror Freight"), waiting to buy some 90 degree welding magnets. It was December, and there were some cheap, free flight planes being sold for Christmas. They were made out of the same foam that is used to package the bottom of ground beef or steaks. They had a capacitor as a battery and an electric motor. On a whim, I bought one for $8 . I spent some time straightening the horizontal stab, with heat, and also the wings. Motor turned CC viewed from the front, so I added some left rudder to the vertical stab. First flight, late in the evening, I was able to get 4 minutes out of a 30 second motor run. Had a few more good flights out of it before the capacitor failed. Lots of fun.

Well it's 4.20am here in London and this is the first bit of peace I've had all night after agonising since 11.00pm yesterday over the failure of a whole British teaching establishment to learn that which NYC has been trying to tell us since 1945 or so. Not your problem. Thanks to you and Pete though for the peace! This really does like a torque swing influenced L power climb & a R glide, absolutely beautiful. I love red and yellow for anything that doesn't have to be scale.. I figure you've got blue (or grey) sky & green grass, (apart from 10ft high corn!) so that leaves yellow and red. A thousand thanks for this. 🌟🌟👍

Like Nate's question. What are the advantages or disadvantages of turning left versus right? And vice versa? Love this channel. So relaxing and informative!
@raymondo162

the issue for debate is torque. as the prop turns to the right, it turns the plane to the left. also vice versa. there are various ways to deal with this - on many powered planes the propellor is not in line with the centreline of the fuselage, for example. props often are 'aimed' downwards and to the left. however............ when the power stops, the torque no longer tries to turn the plane to the left - and it then has a tendency to turn to the right. other complications to what is visibly 'simple' flight........... are also available i'd guess

That’s beautiful! Is it preferable that the model turns to the left or to the right under power? I see a lot turning to the right, but the natural tendencies are for the model to turn to the left via torque, P factor and gyroscopic forces. Thanks in advance, and keep up these amazing videos.

Some models seems to prefer left, others right, and some don't care. I am an RC pilot, and don't know why, just my observations.

I've always tried to fly right-right against torque, since my models climb much higher this way. Going left they'd turn the corner low until the torque wore off, then start the climb, so it was wasted energy. But...that's not always the case...check my Seafire trim films. She was crying to go left, but I was blind to it. Lesson learned? Sometimes a model feels better going to the left, so you just need to be open to listening to it.
@williamrobinson7435
@williamrobinson7435 2 жыл бұрын
I think there's a kind of energy that comes from the right turn trim against the torque swing, it's a bit like when you hold a gyroscope in your hand and resist it's natural inclination to orient itsself.. But some planes just like to go with the flow, torque wise. Although Mr Hallman likes to climb against the torque, I've seen him accede to the odd wilful bird that just wants to climb left. Provided the torque swing dosen't undercut the climb, I think power left and glide right, as we see so beautifully done here, is a great flight pattern. Interesting thing, prop talk torque..

What I read years ago was "left turn under power, right turn under glide." I think that may have been on the back of a Guillow's kit box. That assumes that the model has a VERY strong tendency to turn left under power, though, or you end up flying very large circles. I've also heard that if an aircraft is stubborn in its desire for a left-hand turn you can attach a small piece of cardstock to the trailing edge of the right wing and bend it up slightly - giving the aircraft a little right aileron. Note that the cardstock must be attached to the wing that you want to turn towards to avoid adverse yaw.

What is your CG measurement?
@maxfliart
@maxfliart Жыл бұрын
From Pete Kaiteris, the builder.: "...I have never bothered to actually measure the CG location, but the big lifting tail says it's far back. The leading edge of the wing was raised 3/32". The stab is in the plan position. Gliding and flying established a working CG, although after a full season of flying some clay was added to the tail to flatten the glide. So, you have to experiment to find the sweet spot..."
