Darrell Peck - Adjustable Zig Rig Carp Fishing at Linear | DEEPER Pro Plus

Darrell visited Linear Fisheries to film a session video on the famous Hardwick and Smiths. Due to its varying depths it's the perfect lake to showcase just how useful the Deeper Pro+ can be and why Pecky uses it. The weather, at the time, was inconsistent so Darrell had a variety of options on how he could fish... including zigs, adjustable zigs and on the bottom.

Darrell Peck explains, in his own words, how the approached this short 48 hour session:

“Arriving to the ChristmasTree Swim on Hardwick-Smiths I saw several fish show. Having never fished that swim I wanted to get a rough idea of the depth in this area so I could set my zig rigs accordingly.... initially I thought my DEEPER was broken. As when I cast it in the area I had seen the activity the screen instantly become filled with fish icons. It was only once pulled it back and they disappeared that I realised what I had already seen was the tip of a mother pod of carp sat over deep water. My opening gambit was an 8 foot zig, but after an hour without incident I knew something wasn’t right. Another quick cast with the deeper showed they were still there and I decided to change to an adjustable zig rig so I could work the layers without needing to recast. Setting the zig 6’ down had the desired effect and from that point forward I was waiting on average just just 30mins between takes. This fish was the biggest at just over 30lbs”

Oh yeah and the best thing to do with an adjustable zig is on lakes that are a bit cute on top get the rig out and low slung early wait for it to hot up and get fish going pacman then just rise to the occasion! Use bins to see bait pop up then pull it back just a smidge under the surface and into the clip. Try it its well sneaky! No casting no splash (after half an hour or so) so once they drift back and are feeding and you are already out there... its criminally effective just take 2 nets....

Well now Mr Red Beard, I'm sure you know as well as we all do, as the sport has got more popular and the tackle more advanced and (in some cases) more expensive, so all the 'run-of-the-mill' tackle has got cheaper and better value for money. I'm sure if you shopped around you could find a set of reels, rods and alarms for not much money and bait is as expensive (freezer baits/ready-mades etc.) as you want it to be... alternative baits like corn, tigers, hemp etc have caught and will always catch … be lucky!

Yeah I am going back about 20 years, when I was carping on the regular lakes that are stocked with everything from Carp to Rudd! Now most places have dedicated carp lakes and specimen lakes! Great time to get back after the carp but a hefty price tag! Could do with someone who just upgraded their kit and selling off their used gear lol!

To be honest mate, Nash Tackle's entry level gear is really good value and it's brand new and delivered to your door! I don't work for Nash btw lol

What was forgotten to mention is that when you have measures the depth with your deeper is that you have to add the depth in meters/wraps to the total length of the line you clip. It's not just putting the line in the clip and start wrapping until you hit the clip.

Love these rigs, caught fuck all on them so far (my fault, not the rigs) but its a great way to chuck a zig out without worrying about getting the hooklength spot on.

So what's your point you're trying to make...? Never used the zig rig before or tried it and wasn't successful? I think the bottom line of the video is to make zig fishing easier for anglers.

Seems like a really usefull tool to have but I have one question. What is the point of finding out the depth of the swim if all you need to know is the depth where the fish are? With the adjustable zig rig you basically dont have to care about the depth of the swim. If you know the fishes are lets say 6 feet under the surface you just cast inbetween them. Pull the rig down so the bait is at the right depth and you are good. What difference does it make if there is 12 feet or 24 feet depth? I am quite confused. Am I missing something?

The deeper not only shows the depth but also shows what depth the fish are at so it kills 2 birds with one stone. Saves a lot of guess work
