Very practical tools. Thank you for taking the time. I like the flathead bolt idea.

Very nice. I made a similar tool some years ago for cutting strips of veneer. However instead of a sharpened washer, i used those 18 mm rotary cutter blades. They are very cheap and hold the sharpness for a long time.

Your idea of using a rotary cutter blade is very good. It was an idea I could not think of. Thank you for watching.

Arigato gozaimas for sharing! So simple and useful! You have saved me money and I have learned something new! I will be choosing the flathead model as I already have the materials required!

Thank you very much for the on-screen subtitles. ありがとうございました。I will continue to study Japanese, as well. I really liked the simplicity of the second marking gauge. If I make one of this type I will use that design.

Interesting and simple May I make you some suggestions: put the washer with the flat side towards the wood, this way you'll have 0 adjust. And the nut for the blade should be self fixing in order not to get lose Regards from Argentina

Your suggestion is right. I asked myself why I put the washer in that direction, but I couldn't find an answer. Thank you.

@@fareastwood Like a chisel, the bevel will push the line. If the flat side is away and the bevel is towards you, it pulls the kibiki into the wood and stays accurate. If the bevel is farther and the flat side is closer, it is harder to keep the kibiki from pushing away from the wood. Doable, but harder. I made one with a nail and adjust it with a hammer. I drilled a hole first to make sure it was straight. Mine was easy to make, but learning to adjust it accurately takes longer. The one in your video is better.

Nice video. Super explained and shown. I'll probably buy a Japanese coating too, through the book> The Tools of the Japanese Carpenter

At first I didn't know what a Japanese coating meant. I think it's probably lacquer "Urushi", but what about? If so, that's a great challenge. Few people can use Urushi in Japan. Thank you as always.
@gunterschone84025 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for your answer. If Urushi is correct, it is very difficult. It is specially mixed or pressed / rotated by a cloth. Drying takes place in a warm chamber with 60-80% humidity. It is sanded with water and charcoal, in different thicknesses or grits.
