I’m currently self learning Korean because I find it to be such a beautiful language . It’s my first time self learning a language so I’d really appreciate some tips on how to learn it more effectively and have a native accent .

podcasts, studying song lyrics you genuinely love and want to hear it a million times. Engage in korean content you know you will be interested enough to carry you through. Also kdramas and variety shows (since they're using current language) and also this channel, he made a video having random foregieners talk to natives on this app for a few minutes. Idk the name, though but that can also be a good option for real-time conversation without needing to find friends to practice with.

She’s so right. I’m german and i couldn’t stand english classes at school when i was young, although i liked the language. My grades sucked too. Every class was concentrated on grammar and vocabulary, but we barely ever talked in english and whenever we had the chance, no one would because no one knew how. When i was 14 i started to teach english to myself by making connections to native speakers and talking to them as much as i could. I got better and better at it, got to a point where i barely ever had to look something up and my grades started skyrocketing because i could do way more than what we were asked for at school. I’m now 25 and i speak english fluently. Over here you don’t learn shit in english classes, it’s ridiculous. They’re completely ignoring the fact that a language is about speaking, not writing- although that makes perfect sense. Obviously we speak german fluently over here and we still have german classes to improve grammar and writing skills. Same for english people. Speaking comes first.

I grew up with 2 other languages around me as an infant. It confused me as I would want something but not know the proper word to use as I might know the German word but my Italian great grandmother might not know it, When I went into the Army I went to Germany. I did have beginner German in school. I listen a lot for a few days and started to pick up more and more words. I started using what I learned and when I left years later I was fairly fluent. I did make gramatical errors but the locals accepted that. I did do a weekend training with a friend in the German Army. All the guys were in on the joke except the officer. I thought I got away with it but on the last day he spoke to me in English and said it wasn't my speaking that gave it away but my habits. He said that I was using words from all over Germany, dialect and he thought I may have moved around as a kid. Keep speaking, you may not be perfect but the more you use it the easier it is to use. That came in handy traveling internationally later when I could help travelers who could not understand English spoken with heavy accents
