It makes sense. One of the most successful ground attack planes the US had was also a trainer. If you have a trainer easy enough that the majority of pilots can fly it, they can fly it into combat. If they can fly it into combat, there's going to be a whole lot more of those simpler machines out there than the super sonic and stealth aircraft just by sheer production numbers. I'm not saying the USA is wrong, it's just that they've started to become a bit snobby with what they feel like they need. When you look at how many roles and niches we're trying to stuff the F-35 into and how many we've had to back out of but are still trying to ham fist it into......Fewer variables is nice, but at some point you've got to stop trying to hammer in nails with that drill and use the proper tool for the job.
@bornonthebattlefront488310 ай бұрын
Kinda sorta The US has the ability to give something like an F-16 more munitions then 99% of trainers can carry, plus they have a lot more SEAD capabilities The F-35 fills that niche, but with the added ability to not be shot back at, thus reducing risk Though I do agree with you to the extent of such aircraft like the A-10 The A-10 is dumb, it’s a cool airplane, but something like the AMX International from Italy, can do its job, do it better, and it’s about the same cost per flight hour Tho the A-10 is cheaper to buy outright (because of the quantity built) it’s gun is basically just added weight for how ineffective it is And the AMX is just, for all intents and purposes, a modified MB-339

The US Government has a perception issue with thinking that having only the most advanced planes means no, or very low losses. They think if they send in a plane that is perceived by the public as less capable, and it gets shot down, the public attitude towards whatever they are doing will turn against them, and their goals. It doesnt matter that a F-35 or F-22 costs 10 times more than one of these cheaper types of combat air craft. They see it as risking losing 5 as opposed to one. And that doesnt seem to be the case if Poland isnt worried about going up against Russian fighters with this plane.

What makes the T50 family so special is that the dollar/performance ratio is so good that it is a no-brainer for many so called smaller air forces in multiple roles. The added benefit of NOT being American built is just an added bonus. The Philippines Air Force for instance is not blessed with huge budgets but the capabilities of the aircraft far outweigh anything else they could afford to buy new.

What would you say is the cheapest/lowest maintenance/most reliable fighter jet? How would this stack up to the RedHawk in terms of lifetime costs? The fact that you think not being American built is a blessing tells me all I need to know. The US literally has the most advanced Air Force and Naval Air Force in the world. We literally can't get the F-22 into combat because everyone is too scared of its almost 50 year old predecessor to take on the bird that shot down the F-15. The F-35 has a weapons suite so advanced that you'll never get to see it before it shoots you out of the sky. The BUFF is almost a century old, and can level a city in minutes. The A-10 is just as old, practically impossible to shoot down, and will eat your ground forces for breakfast. There isn't a single aircraft outside the US, that can hang with what we have. We have the largest defense spending budget in the world. If you don't think we're using every penny of that to ensure that our closest neer-peers are two steps behind, you're fooling yourself. Russia's "next-gen stealth" fighter has the same radar cross-section as SR-71, which isn't stealth, but reduced visibility. Our F-35 has a smaller cross-section than most birds of prey. Beyond that, South Korea is a staunch US ally, both militarily and economically. They may have built this airframe, but it was done with a massive amount of cooperation and collaboration with the US.
@stephen_198710 ай бұрын
@@SkunkApe407 you are taking my reply out of context, though your fanboy response does say a lot. Not being ITAR restricted means that the US Government cannot cut off the supply of spare parts at their own whim. Which they have done before to countries when they make political or diplomatic decisions that do not agree with the US World view. I believe it has happened to both Pakistan and Indonesia in the past. Why do you think countries like Saudi operate mixed fleets from multiple countries? Why do you think Malaysia bought Mig-29’s to supplement their Hornets?

Never could understand why the U.S. didn't select the T-50 for its advanced trainer. South Korea is a longtime ally of the United States. And, the plane was "designed with" (or "by") Lockheed Martin's help, so LM would have made a logical partner to build the plane for the USA. The Meteor itself is widely considered one of the strongest AA Missiles available to aircraft, and is more readily accessible compared to the US equivalent. Even if they lack stealth, being able to serve as light missile trucks with such a long aerial denial range would make things more difficult for would-be aggressors; moreso if aided by strong ground or flying airborne targeting and tracking facilities.

Among the contracts between Lockheed Martin and KAI are as follows. FA-50 has a constraint that it cannot exceed the latest F-16 specification. So the FA-50 has its limits. However, the FA-50 is a cost-effectiveness and has a full role to play. Very powerful as a 5th generation pilot training, proximity support, and small multi-roll fighter. It must be a very useful aircraft for both training and practice. Armed forces are also evolving. In Block 2 AIM-9 Sidewinder AIM-7 Sparrow AGM-65 Maverick IRIS-T KEPD 350K-2 AIM-120 AMRAAM It will be armed. What is unusual is that the Korean-made AESA Radar is better than the US-made Radar with performance limits. However, due to the inherent limitations of FA-50, it seems to be impossible to mount. However, KF-21 has no constraints. This is because Korea has developed core technologies such as AESA Radar, IRST, EOTGP, and RF Jammer. The interior armament is also under development and the MUM-T system is also under development. We're testing to control three drones with wingmen It is being developed as a multi-purpose fighter with more than five generations at the same time as the development of internal armoured windows. The AESA radar developed by Korea is a gallium nitride material and is powerful. It is currently used in Korean Aegis destroyers, M-SAMs, and L-SAMs. Gallium oxide materials that are much more powerful than gallium nitride materials are also being developed. Korea has strong EMP technology. RF-Jammer is also very powerful. It will reach NGJ-MB performance enough. IRST is currently on board the frigate and in use. EO-TGP is already applied to FA-50. Core equipment is constantly being upgraded with the development of new technologies. KF-21 Boramae is the name of a falcon when its young is raised for hunting. Boramae is called the Little Raptor, but in the near future, it will evolve into the fifth and sixth generation fighter jets that will shine on itself. I hope you will pay a lot of attention to KF-21.

The T50 series is a good product line. The Philippines bought the FA 50 because of the huge gap that was left when the PAF retired the F5A/Bs in 2005. While we got offers for 2nd hand F16s. It was deemed necessary for PAF to go back to the basics as we have no qualified pilots to fly the F16s then. The "we have no budget" is a lame excuse as we are anticipating to procure both the Gripen E and the F16Vs in the next 5 years from now.
@jameslooker479110 ай бұрын
The two factors in the FA-50s favor are the rise of shahed drones and relatively few number of production lines for ANY fighter jets. Air forces need to prepare for waves of hundreds, possibly thousands, of 200+ kg suicide drones. That's going to require a lot of problem solving to keep the cost of interceptions cheap enough to deter attacks. Enter the armed trainer aircraft to hunt drones on a budget... The T-50 stands out reasonably well against the T-7 and the M-346 as the most capable, but with even a slight price premium for that capability it loses a lose of bids. What gives the FA-50 a huge boost is the overflowing demand for 4th gen fighters. This is a big reason to expect more FA-50 orders in Europe, but its flame will probably burn out by 2030.

This is a entry level Saab Gripen E, lower price and lower operational cost. If KAI keeps updating this platform, the orders will come in.

Ireland may be looking at these to fulfil air policing roles as we currently have no capability to intercept aircraft whatsoever.

One fun fact about the FA-50 of the Philippine Airforce, it was able to kill a F-22 Raptor in a Mock Dogfight. Unbelievable but it's true
@Hathur10 ай бұрын
True, but the parameters of the scenario had some of the F-22's advanced systems forbidden from use during the exercise. If it wasn't forcibly handicapped the outcome would likely have been extremely different.

@@HathurAnd F-22 in most exercise is always put into disadvantage situation to train both pilots on hoe to fight.
@Hathur10 ай бұрын
@@Boomkokogamez Correct. The point of the exercises is to improve the skill of both pilots, but the F-22 pilot won't learn much if his advanced tech is doing 90% of the work, so for exercises they almost always handicap the superior fighter aircraft to ensure both pilots are relying more on their skill than their tech and advancing their skills through practice.

As a Filipino, let's not beat our chest with this "win". The F-22 then was put in a hilariously disadvantageous situation. Drop tanks, the F/A-50 starting at the F-22's 6 o'clock, etc. This doesn't take away from the capability of the F/A-50 though. I'm sure it's a capable aircraft and I do hope this country obtains more.

i fucking hate that we make such a huge deal out of mock dogfights.. they're training apertures for the pilots and proof of concepts for the squadron commanders. Nothing else, there's no ego in the hotseat.

You mean military industry, not military industrial complex. The military industrial complex is an American term that refers to corruption that involves the military industry, politicians and generals and admirals. It's Dassault Rafale, not Rafael. It's a great option for an attack aircraft. It can definitely outperform the Su-17/22.
