KOREAN ADOPTEE: IT TOOK ME OVER 30 YEARS TO GET HERE

As a Korean Adoptee I have had to work through many aspects of my identity over the years. Being and looking Korean may seem silly and obvious to the random person who may stumble on this but for any transracial adoptee it is more complicated than one might think.

Wow! Everything you spoke about fit me to a tee! I am now almost 65 years old. I did not decide to finally accept that I was indeed Korean until age 58. It has been a journey.

I’m not blaming your parents, but I feel like cultural education should 100% be a requirement for adoptive parents and adoptees.

Agree!! I also think it was a different time. It seems like current adoptive families are more aware and have a lot more resources at their disposal compared to the 80s.

I'm white and I felt different not being blond and blue-eyed too. All the dolls and story books were blond. When red headed Midge Barbie doll came out I had to have her.

@@NewEnglandSeoul what happened I asked for help please help me out I was adopted also. I know my biological mother is more Asian than she is Middle Eastern in Afghanistan it's very Asian. But I am in Massachusetts now

@@NewEnglandSeoul Pacific Islander people are a little different due to people's perceptions of color living in the US. In Massachusetts it's very Chinese and I have not seen many Koreans

Racial awareness/ discrimination is so terrible. God made colors, just like any species of animal and flowers that comes in diff shades. Every single one is beautiful in its own way.
