Korea is not ethnically diverse and the beauty standards reflect this. This is true of every country. Try going to France ( a country which is far more ethnically varied, due in no small part to centuries of colonialisma) as a black or brown woman, and see how far you get.

it's heavily/deeply rooted within their society/culture. not just high school but brought all the way to adulthood. you have to be the most unhinged, jobless and psychotic to even go to a music show just to show a black ocean treatment towards an idol.

I am a Korean girl who lives in Australia. I was so confused when Australians told me that I am attractive and good looking all the time when I came here 10 years ago. (I have very “Asian” look, like Lucy Liu) I grew up hearing only the flaws of my look from other Koreans (you should get your eye done, nose done, your head is too big, you are only good looking from your back etc. etc.). I feel confident about my looks living in Australia as people don’t obsess with looks over here as much, but every time I visit Korea, I feel self conscious again.

They don't hate their ethnic feature. They simply lift up the royal standard. @@Kris-yt6yr they actually appear naturally, but very rarely. That combined with fair skin and all the rest as perfect as they want it is very hard to find. Like the right hair colour, shiny hair, figure aso. When my info is correct only 3 women in the business of K-pop ever met that standart without surgery. Can't remember where I read that, but the author suggested that it's easier to win in lottery than to actually meet every criteria in one individual. Now I'm no K-pop fan, so I wouldn't know wether true or exaggerated, but as often as you find the single attributes here and there, it's the combination it seems. Standards as having pale and flawless skin already existed during the ancient Korean era and they were linked to Confucian philosophy. Clear, bright flawless skin were characteristics of their Royals while being tanned ,having discolorated and damaged skin etc were characteristics of the poor since they were exposing themselves too much in the sun due to work. Keep in mind that SK is a homogeneous society with very few foreigners living there. They don't get influenced as easy as we ,in the West.

Bigbang yes, but SM artists NO. I am pretty sure all sm artists including super junior and shinee have had plastic surgeries and still do, they all wore similar clothes and danced in sync. I mean we're talking about shinee, they started the dance practice videos and their dances are iconic and in sync and Super junior are not that small of a group either lol, they had and still have a lot of members . As for 2ne1, they were literally bullied by yg and called ugly, it's probably one of the reasons he disbanded them and debuted blackpink a group with all pretty girls.

Its a homogeneous society with a very small percentage of western foreigners living there, it aint Canada nor US. Mind your business, love your beautiful self, fuck local beauty standards (they are not for you anyways) and enjoy the food. PS. The best part of SK is the food, no tipping culture, the kind elders, safety and their transport system (except the 12am curfew, but we stand). Make sure to bring basic korean with you so you can make friends and meet people in your field if you are studying 😉 Also, leave your kdrama daydream back home, SK is no kdramas, and no oppas nor idols are flooding them streets 😅😊

If you’re around 170cm you most likely need to see your doctor because that’s a very unhealthy bmi especially if you’re not a teenager anymore your fat cells may be very low and what can occur is you’re going to burn your protein. What occurs is you cannot build muscles and strengthen ligaments leading to issues like arthritis and muscle loss leading to bad posture due to a weak core in the abdominals since the muscular system is just as important in supporting the skeletal system

I live in the US, and here, the standard has always been, to be tan, skinny (but still have "assets"), have dark brows and lashes, and be shorter (actually it depends on where you go here, but where I am, every girl wants to be shorter). I am natural blonde, so I remember when I was younger, trying to darken my eyebrows and use my mother's mascara 😅. I've always been quite tall so I would never wear heals. I have super pale skin, but would stay outside all day and try to darken, but instead would burn myself. Luckily, now I accept myself, but my point is that every place has beauty standards, that many people cannot fill. Some places, like East Asia can be much stricter about it, or more influencing... I just hope, that one day, everyone can just accept themselves for who they were born to be, not what society has chosen for us to be. *Don't let the world change you, when you were born to change the world ❤️🌏*

Asians do this because you all look INCREDIBLY similar to one another, i.e. same hair colour, same eye colour, similar heights, bone structure etc etc etc, so the only way to maaaaaybe stand out is to spend $50k on surgery and on expensive brand-name products. However, because caucasians look wildly different from one another, it's easy for us to have distinct looks that people will find attractive without the need for surgery or being covered in expensive items.
