안녕 학생! 크리스토퍼입니다 만나서 반가워요! 이는 쉬운. So we got this! 👍🏻 Ok, for anyone asking or wondering about the 이 = " two", 저 = "I" or "me", 그 = "he" issue and how to know what is being used. It's context clues. Context clues means what other words are around it and or how is it being used. Nobody is going to say "Two is a big hat." So they must mean "This is a big hat." Nobody is going to say "That want to eat kimchi." So they must mean "I want to eat kimchi." Like in English we have "lie" and "band" for example. If someone says "lie down on the couch" or "she told a horrible lie." you know what they mean by "lie" in both sentences. If someone says "He put the band on her finger." or "The band played their most popular song." you know what they mean by "band" in both sentences. See what mean? These are context clues. 천만에요! ㅋㅋㅋ. 안녕히 겨서요. Hope this helps! :-) ^_^

Adding on to @Asima's correct answers, if the "I knew it" is for situation like " I knew it! I knew it would happen!", it would be "그럴 줄 알았어!"

Great question! You made a really good point. Yes there are words that sound the same. However, 이, 저, 그 for 'this' and 'that' are always followed by a noun. For example, "this pen" is '이 펜'. If you are to use 'this' alone without a noun following, you need to add '것'. For example; "this is a pen" will be "'이것'은 펜입니다". On the other hand, the words you mentioned : 이 as 2, 저 as me, and 그 as he do not have to be followed by a noun nor '것'. Hope that helped ! 🙂 (🍭For more questions, please add a separate comment as I cannot get alarms for sub-comments )

Context clues. Context clues means what other words are around it and or how is it being used. I'll make a main post with more information.

안녕하세요 크리스토퍼입니다. 자는 한국말, 한국어 잘 못해요. 죄송합니다. So I'll stick to English for the most part for now. lol. I have helped some, but I have a question of my own. If you don't mind helping me 선생님! 😁 In one of your examples, 이거는 you are referring to a specific book that you are obviously pointing out. How is it compared anything else? Is it simply that you are making a broad statement like "This is a book, this is a desk"? "이거는 책이에요, 이거는 책상이에요" Also could 이 or 가 be used instead of 은 or 는? I mean if no comparison is being made. Well it would have to be 가 or 는 since 이거 ends in a vowel. You get the idea. lol. Since 은 and 는 are particles that indicate a comparison to something and 은 comes after a word that ends in a consonant and 는 comes after a word that ends in a vowel and 이 and 가 are just particles and 이 comes after a word that ends in a consonant and 가 comes after a word that ends in a vowel. Hopefully this question itself serves as a lesson on particles as well. 감사합니다! 😁

Really great question, it looks like youre already up to certain level in Korean learning! :) 은/는 and 이/가 are one of the most complicated particles in Korean grammar. Both are similar in that they serve the subject of the sentence. However, theyre different in that the two carry different nuiance in a sentence. 은/는 can 1) be used to emphasize comparison to sth else, and 2) emphasize the subject. For example, 꽃이 예뻐요 would carry the nuiance that a certain flower in the situation is pretty. 꽃은 예뻐요 on the other hand, could mean either 1) Flower in general are pretty 2) Flower, in comparison to sth else in the situation, is pretty. That would be the case where for example, the tree is not pretty but the flower is.

@@DongGrammyKorean 아! 고마워요. Yes! Exactly what I was saying. Thank goodness I understood that right. Also this raises a new question. If you don't mind then I'll go back to learning from the videos and let you have peace. lol. I started with learning the alphabet and pronunciation. Then the rules and changes to pronunciations. Now I'm working on ending particles, building my vocabulary and natural sentence structure and pronunciation. Always working on pronunciation because I keep hearing different instruction on proper pronunciation. Ugh! lol. I'm kinda different. I want to learn on a very deep level. So when I finally get moved to South Korea I can communicate and express myself as well as understand others on the deepest levels. Especially since one of my main goals is when I get there I find the most wonderful woman in the world and we fall so deep in love we both glow! Anyway... Like with 안녕하세요. Pretty much everyone just tells us it means "Hello", but it doesn't! It means "Peace do" with respect. 안녕 means "Peace" 하세요 means "do" with the 요 part showing respect. So it's essentially saying "I intend on doing a peaceful interaction." It's the most common formal greeting people use in South Korea and it's used the same as saying "Hello" in English. This is how I want to learn. Now my question. The only version of "pretty" I have seen so far is 예쁜. What made it change to 예뻐 in your example statement and why? Thank you so much for your time, attention and effort. You already offer teaching so we can't expect you to run around spending hours answering questions. lol. Like I said hopefully my questions as well as your answers serve as extra learning for all the 학생 친구들.
