I'm surprised LAPD trained Jindo dog as police dog. They are not used as police dog in Korea because they tend to serve only one owner. They refuse to eat when their owner is changed.

They don't do it anymore. This is from the wiki page. "In October 2010, the Los Angeles Police Department announced their intent to evaluate the Jindo dog breed for law enforcement service, specifically for patrol and detection service. Four selected Jindo puppies would be distributed to LAPD and Glendale California Police Department to be trained as K9 units. After a year of trying, the trainers found that the dogs did not have the right disposition for police work because they were too easily distracted and too eager to please their masters."

Karla Cho that's right. One has to take the dog before 3 weeks which isn't healthy for the puppy but it learns to serve 1 master.

이야기 같은데 보면 백구가 수컷이라고 나오는데 사실 암컷입니다. 그리고 이야기에서 다른 사람도 백구 기다리는데 사실은 할머니밖에 없었다네요.

You may look Korean, sound like a Korean, but if you don't get a little teary-eyed hearing the Baegku story, you ain't Korean! If you do, though, no matter what you look or sound like, you are a Korean in spirit.

The LAPD determined the Jindos they recieved weren't good police dogs. They are too independent and are easily distracted. I heard the ROK military did use Jindos for guard dogs. They are also used for hunting in Korea.

Cool video, but how is it that Koreans can eat Nureongi dogs, and yet love their Jindo dogs? They're both primitive spitz type dogs, and yet their attitudes toward them are totally different.

***** Don't believe everything you read on the internet, Most Koreans don't eat it but it is common in Asia to see dogs being slaughtered for meat like any other animal.
@PlainsPup9 жыл бұрын
Ja Ka It's true that most people in the Far East do not eat dogs. However, the practice is common enough in China and South Korea to cause many thousands of dogs to be held inhumanely in tiny cages, and then tortured before slaughter because of a believe that it will make them "taste better." Dogs are not like any other meat animal. All animals should be kept humanely, but all the other major meat animals (chickens, turkeys, ducks, cattle, sheep, goats, swine) are prey animals. In contrast, not only are dogs carnivores, they have also been with humanity much longer than any other animal: over 30,000 years. They have the sobriquet "Man's Best Friend" because of all they do for and with us. They are so valuable, that historically they were eaten only rarely, or out of desperation. But keeping them as meat animals is incredibly unjust, and the way they are kept and dispatched is intolerably cruel. It must stop.

***** tldr if you want to be racist then find a way to summarize and get people to listen

Ja Ka It's not racist to say that keeping dogs as meat animals is wrong on many levels.

***** The two dogs were raised for different purposes. Nureongi were pretty much raised to be eaten while Jindo were meant to be used in hunting and etc. Why do we raise cows, pigs and chickens in a farm or a factory? It is true the popularity of dog meat in Korea is dying down due to the availability of other meat via import, but that doesn't mean it is or has been "wrong" to eat dogs. Cows are much smarter than dogs but we think less to show sympathy for their deaths. Every animal should be treated humanely but it is in human nature to eat - we are omnivores. The amount of nutrient a human body can absorb through vegetables alone is biologically not enough. It is healthy to at least consume meat once in a while to replenish the nutrients that are not fulfilled with eating non-meat products. Your argument possibly stems from the fact that you have easy access to food. In countries like America we have been abusing our resources to the point where food goes to waste and we consider that as normal. And if food ever spoils or we crave something new, we can just walk down to our nearest grocery store and buy a pack of precooked rotisserie chicken. The world outside of places like America still have people dying of hunger. They have to resort to eating whatever they can find - ants, worms, spiders. Long ago Korea was also in lack of food and more prominently meat. Things like cows were available but were very scarce. Most of the time cows were not eaten in order to use them to help graze the farm. When they were eaten it was a luxury and a very rare occasion. Even till a couple decades ago, if a family had a cow, they would be able to send their kid to college - a single cow was a large investment, like a house. So just like others still struggling with poverty around the world, people in Korea had to resort to whatever they could find around them, which were dogs. This practice is not only unique to Asia though. Europe had its share of dog/cat eating in periods of famine. The culture of eating dogs in Korea still resides today but it is not something anyone really has the right to criminalize. A dog might be your "best friend" but to others they are not.
