I'm actually old fashioned and I loathe hook-up culture. You can't even go on 3 dates without the other person expecting sex. Like I'm trying to have a conversation and get to know you, and the reply to everything is like that's nice so your place or mine? It's extremely frustrating. (However that's just my experience as an american, living in the states.)

@doloresfraga56093 жыл бұрын
Yeah I get that, at the same time I would not commit to a relationship only after 3 dates. I mean i get some people wanna wait more to be physical, and that is great, yet commiting to care and give exclusive attention to one person only after seeing them 3 times seems like irresponsible to me. I don´t fear commitment but i don´t like playing with other people´s feelings, so when I say I wanna be in a relationship I wanna be sure I can be up to that.
@TitusAzzurro3 жыл бұрын
You're probably young. As they said, when you approach your 3Os, you know what you want. Waiting several dates before hooking up is ok; waiting a bit longer after that to have sex is fine; but there is a limit before someone thinks you're asexual or something.

I think Danny's perspective is more mature, IMO. Not to say that David's isn't. He knows what he wants, he looks for a partner with similar feelings and develops relationships where there is a clear understanding of expectations. There's no need for guessing or 'playing games' or arbitrary dos and don'ts. And people like that can still be romantic. But you have to have two people on the same level.

The “get in a relationship to know the person” freaks me out. What if the person is a psycho or you hate some of his habits or an aspect of him. I could never date someone after 3 dates that’s like dating a stranger, in that period of time you learn nothing about the person and people can be fake. That’s a hell nah for me. Yes, it's the same for me. That wouldn't be enough to get to know the guy properly, especially me being a more emotionally involved person, before dating someone I would have to know him quite well and at least have that friendship going on. That's why blind dates are kinda a big no for me. Everyone is different. I also think that having sex after 1/2 months of dating is too early 😂. I would never 😂

I feel like foreign dating, at least in America, the hardest ‘hurdle’ to pass is “are we exclusive?” So you might start dating someone for a couple months but if u like them seriously u have to ask to be exclusive aka not seeing anyone else. I’m not sure if this culture exists in Korea but it’s pretty common in America. Also I feel like when u have sex is very individualized, some people wait some people don’t 🤷♀️

In "Western Culture" is just not a good expression. It really varies a lot, from place to place. In the US people go on dates for months and most have sex without being "exclusive", as in they kind of are still single and ready to mingle, before they have a talk that defines the relationship. I think that is what she meant, and that's what I heard is generally whats happening. Of course, some people are different and might fall in love at work etc. and be in a relationship immediately. In Scandinavia people might have sex before going on dates and then kind of slide into a relationship without much talking and defining. In German speaking Europe its usually assumed that you are exclusively dating by the time the first kiss happens, which is usually within 3-5 dates, maybe longer if it starts from a blind/tinder date. Dating is not casual here either, unless you clearly define it as a fling/fwb sort of situation before you sleep together.

What danny said is pretty much what I think as well. Koreans start a relationship and then get to know each other while in western countries (Germany) we get to know each other first and then start a relationship. I've witnessed both cultures when I was in the beginning of my 20s. And I saw that young Koreans tend to date, break-up and get into new relationships pretty quickly, while western people most of the time took much longer to get into a realtionship but it lasted longer. I can't speak for the majority, but that is what I've seen. (I am not talking about hookup cultures. that's another story).

I think the "getting to know each other for 6 months" for Western culture doesn't necessarily mean those people are going out of dates for 6 months straight. I was part of a friend group with my boyfriend for 2 years before we stated talking more one on one and realized we were into each other as more than just friends. My dating experience in Mexico is technically you’re friends first, then if you like each other, you flirt. Flirting can be very direct and since it’s so obvious, they confess or maybe they may confess even before they start flirting. Then they ask if you want to be a couple, you say yes and boom, you’re a couple and that’s when you can kiss, hold hands, etc. Like one day you’re nothing and the next there’s so much skin ship. We don’t really date, we just go from friends to couple and that’s it. That’s why i find it weird when dating and being exclusive are two different things in some places when here… dating is being exclusive.

Depending on how the attraction is, sex can be right away or a bit slower but, after date 3 and both parties agree- sex usually happens lol. And yes, as you get older here ppl learn what they prefer and are more open to sex a bit quicker when dating to make sure they are compatible. I was in the talking or "some" phase with my current boyfriend of 3 years, for like 3 months before he asked me out and we went on a date. We didn't have much skinship until 4 months after dating. We were both virgins so maybe that had something to do with it. 😁 We were both 18 then, now 21

I love these videos. lol. All of this is soo true. haha. My coworker and I have had these comparative dating culture conversations and we both learned so much. Like what Danny said, "Foreigners get to know eachother to date eachother, whereas Koreans date eachother to get to know eachother." It was so true. I was explaining to my coworker that in Korea, you kind of need that "boyfriend/girlfriend" label to kind of move farther in your relationship physically,etc. Whereas in Western culture, I feel like people are afraid to use that label and define the relationship until later on, even though they've had that emotional and physical relationship from the start. A lot of time we'll say that "we are seeing someone right now", and hear the label of "boyfriend/girlfriend" when being introduced to a friend or something. "this is my girlfriend____." We aren't as direct with the whole label thing. (Or at least in my experience anyways, so when I first started dating here in Korea, I was shocked at how direct everything was.)

In the west the term "dating" and what you do during that time can be interpreted differently from person to person. Some people consider dating to be less serious and something different than saying you are in a relationship. Id love the Korean dating culture, seems more respectful to me

Lol even for me like when I watch Korean guys and they're like cutesy , it's adorable! But if it were like a South African guy, I'd be so uncomfortable 😂 Korean guys are getting away with murder😂😂😂

This is so true, even though I feel like 2000s (more so in joburg) and up are more comfortable being cute, but not at the level seen in kdramas or by idols. The old generation is a no💀💀💀🤣🤣🤣

I'd love to see that collaboration! I hope that one day David gets to go on the kind of date where he can understand why Danny is laughing so hard at all that formula and proper steps. I think if you're able to be following an official pre-planned formula - like if there's space in your head at the time for all of that calculating, then no matter the culture, something isn't really clicking. It's better to just know where you're at, read the other person for cues and clues for where they're at and move forward or step back accordingly. Like, maybe it'd likely still end up about the same result on a timeline, but it's not a healthy start if you're counting the steps as you dance. I'm starting to picture David on a date, like that scene at the dance competition in Grease, where Frenchy asks, "Doody, can you turn me around or something?" and he replies, "don't talk, French, I'm trying to count."

I agree with Danny on mostly everything he said , I understand the culture difference but like he said its best to live by yourself its less stressful no worrying . I'm from California so with me I will wait 4 weeks until actually becoming physical with that person. I like to get to know the person that I'm dating alot more about them first. Everyone has different ways on dating and I respect that . This was a great video

The tough guys are always very cute when all alone with their girlfriend. So really all men are cute and the same. Some are just more open with it.

the whole '6 months of dating before a relationship,' in the US really translates to '6 months of casually hooking up until someone catches feelings and decides to actually confirm the relationship then like 2 weeks of weirdness and then you're official,' tbh. like I've seen people hook-up or casually see each other on-again, off-again for months before they decide to maybe seriously date the person. it usually seems like a game of who can care less.

"...and then we sleep." *pause* "AND THEN YOU SLEEP?!" I laughed so hard throughout the entire thing, and I'm American! Also, yes, there is typically sex involved in the 6-9 months of getting to know each other before you decide to be "serious."

2 min in i lost it, 4 min in i was like wtf with david's barking and master and danny's "ahhh". In America, dating phase is in several parts. "Meeting - Getting to know each other", then there's "Casual dating - Non-exclusive / going over your options before deciding which one you like the best", then there's "Exclusive dating - you both decide you don't want to see other people anymore and you want to only see each other", then that turns into "Serious relationship - bf/gf" stage. Naturally, every couple is different and each relationship is unique, but this is the general flow of dating culture in the states, and the "dating phase" before being officially bf/gf is anywhere from 2 - 6 months depending on how fast or slow each couple wants to take things. Generally. The 3 day rule in korea is much much too fast for american dating culture lol. We want to know the person we are choosing to commit to before we decide to commit to the one person.
