It's an uncomfortable conversation for any boss to have with their employees tbh, defending capitalism so vehemently when it goes directly against their best interest. On the other hand, I think if a business owner accepts that capitalism can be questioned, they must also question the morality of many decisions they've made/are still making, which is also uncomfortable. With peace and love, I think it is better for Ethan to revisit the socialism convo when he's done some digging and reading into theory and examples of socialist practices and history. He's basing a large chunk of his viewpoint on random shit he's seen on twitter or in the subreddit and it's polluting what *could* be a reasonable worldview. He's never going to be anti-capitalist, and it is what it is. He's a business owner, we shouldn't expect him to be anti-cap. But if he's going to engage in these convos, he needs to do it from an informed point of view, which he has not up to this point. I look forward to more dynamic convos in the future on this topic, but for now, it's becoming insufferable.

I love you Ethan, but you're still approaching the socialism conversation with Capitalist principles. For instance, you asked "A business owner who defaults on the loan can lose their house is that the same for the employees." In a socialist society your home is guaranteed. Also "Companies run at a negative for years" but thats AFTER paying out to workers. It's not like the workers don't get paid in a company technically not making money. The reason companies like Google and Spotify run at a negative is because they're cooking their books and "investing" in other avenues to eventually make more money to also not have to pay (as much) tax on those reinvested profits. In a socialist system the workers would have say in those reinvestments.

Chat shouldn't have been so cruel to Zach about the Taylor comment, but as a swiftie, I do wanna explain it a little bit. Many of Taylor's ex's are not hated by the Swiftie fandom at ALL, (taylor lautner, harry styles, tom hiddleston etc.) If they end amicably then there's no issue. Zach is NOT a misogynist but what he was saying is usually considered to be a misogynistic take. Like Ethan mentioned, Swifties are tired of hearing that "Taylor ruins the lives of every man she dates" when that simply isn't true. Even the ones Swifties DO dislike, John Mayer, Jake Gyllenhall, etc, are still employed and doing fine as far as I know. Zach I love ya, no homo. And great job to Olivia on the PowerPoint as always!!

jup. men dating around and singing about there relationships don't get nearly the reputation swift got (i mean- that's why the album is called that right?). Obviously, every artist draws upon about their own experiences in their work. In my opinion, the difference with Taylor Swift is that she leaves all these Easter eggs and hints to directly show you who she is talking about in her songs, then the fans send hate their way, and she has never really condemned her fans from sending hate to people to my knowledge. Yes, no one's career has been ruined, but the minimal anonymity about the subject (I know she says she doesn't directly name drop, but "Dear John" and "Style"? Come on, now!) does set her work apart from many other artists. The hate in this aspect is definitely overblown, but writing off any questioning of this behavior as "misogynistic" is silly to me.

To answer all of Ethan‘s questions regarding socialism: Basically, you have to think outside of the framework of capitalism if you want to understand how things would (or rather: should) be done under socialism. That is the THEORY part. And next is the issue of adapting those non-capitalist solutions in the real world, which requires either a revolution or finding stable transitional states, gradually making changes while always keeping the system functional. That is the PRAXIS part. I feel it would really help these discussions to at least make that distinction

@@Plutonium.2 he's definitely setting rhetorical traps and this time dan didnt bite and I respect the shit outta him for setting a hard boundary especially with his boss even if his boss is his friend and also a cool but out of touch rich guy. ethan clearly has a complex but I cant exactly put my finger on it. that's why he wont even stop talking or waiting to talk about it and brings it up out of nowhere to their POV but he's been cooking this thought a long time but still not absorbing the 2 sides of a conversation bit. the dvd screen saver makes the one sided rhetorical bad faith questions way more palatble and funny again.

Dan literally said yes at the end and Ethan talked over him, if workers cooperatively owned a business then yes they would share the liability as well as the profit. Like bro just shut up for 2 minutes and let other people talk, these aren't the bad faith actors like NXVIM or Oli London that you normally interview, these are your friends genuinely trying to help you learn, but you gotta throw them a bone by just listening and digesting what they say to you.

i would just like to say that she dated joe alwin for like 7 years ad nobody destroyed his life or reputation. i feel like jake and john mayer are also still very successful men or am i insane? like yeah obviously theres gonna be fans that hate him but zach claiming it will “destroy his career” or that the cheifs would fire him is pretty stupid tbh
@ryann.2494 Жыл бұрын
also we love taylor lautner and even joe was forgiven by the swifties? i just think its silly to say theres been a pattern of her destroying mens careers after they breakup
@liesbeneathoureyes Жыл бұрын
Not to mention Harry Styles who is Taylor’s ex and also one of the most famous and successful male artists in the entire world. The idea that a breakup with Taylor Swift automatically means her ex’s career and reputation will be “ruined” is bogus
@ryann.2494 Жыл бұрын
@@liesbeneathoureyes YES OMG how could i even forget harry ,,, its overall just dumb, like i said even her most hated ex’s are still largely successful and touring or in marvel movies like common zach
