The ship portrayed in the beginning of the movie is the SS Meredith Victory which is often dubbed as the "Ship of Miracles" credited with the largest humanitarian rescue operation by a single ship, safely evacuating 14,000 Korean refugees in a single trip during the Korean war. It was designed to accomodate 47 crewmen and 12 passengers. Bless Captain LaRue and his gallant crew.
I heard the story from my father when he visited Korea that they were very kind. They dont really mind if you eat a lot but gets really angry when people leave food uneaten. I guess this was because they knew the horrors of war and hunger.
@thekingminn2 жыл бұрын
it's the same here too. My grandma would get mad at me when I don't finish my food saying when she was a kid they had to eat fast because battles between the military and rebels could happen at any moment.

Same goes to my family. My parents are Vietnamese born Chinese. They were refugees after the Vietnam war and always scold me and my sister to never waste food or a single grain of rice and told us how hard farmers work to harvest these rice. I was to young to understand why until I was old enough to understand their experience coming to America.

A lot of us - Americans especially - cannot fathom the horror and trauma that you suffer in seeing your country fall. The South Koreans were pushed back all the way to the very tip of their country, holding only one city (Busan). The North Koreans literally walked across the frozen Han River and burned Seoul to the ground. Many South Koreans already assumed that the war was lost. The Americans saved their country at the very last second, and many of them have not forgotten that. Everywhere you go in South Korea, there will be a small monument to a battle fought on almost every street. It was a war of inches. It's very jarring to see that people died on the very same hill that now holds a school or a skyscraper. Seoul is a giant, beautiful city - it's hard to imagine that it was nothing but ashes only a few decades ago. FUN FACT: There are monuments to General Douglas MacArthur *everywhere* in Korea. I often joked to my friends that he was more popular than Jesus over there.
@SeoWoojin55 Жыл бұрын
it was not just America that helped Korea but a lot of other countries. South Korean soldiers were also still the largest forces on the ground. North Korea was supplied with weapons from the beginning while South Korea had little and had to rebuild from scratch since 1945 during the early Korean Republic days. Its nothing short of a miracle that the South Korean Army managed to reorganize itself as it only began with 22 officers remaining from the original officer corps of the Korean Liberation Army that fought and defeated Japan during WW2 in Korea and Manchuria. South Korean troops still had to push out of Busan to meet with the Americans in Incheon during the Incheon landings to have a large combined force to retake Seoul in 1951 and Pyongyang on the same year towards the other northern cities until 1952 when China joined North Korea. South Korean troops shed blood alongside American allies and UN allies and were thankful for the help but the credit must be also given to the South Korean soldiers that made it possible to push far back from Busan to meet with their allies in Incheon and to nearly unifying the entire peninsula. The powerful South Korean army that we see today which one of the most advanced and powerful in the world is seen today because of these brave men back in 1950 to 1953.

I found this film to be a bit overrated by the invaders and even made them heroes in the Vietnam battlefield while the liberation fighters or known as the Viet Cong were portrayed as who would be willing to kill their own countrymen. 12:24 The truth here is that almost all of those South Vietnamese were not afraid of the Viet Cong at all because it was the Viet Cong who stood up to take back the country, even those people who provided sites and places to stay. hide for the liberation soldiers. This movie is just like other movies about the US war in Vietnam, only praising the invaders instead of doing exactly what happened and recorded in history books. In the end, it's just propaganda.
