I certainly had my preferences, but I remember there being like 4 different ration manufacturers with somewhere about 20 or 40 options each. I don’t remember having the same thing twice in my 3 years, but I certainly could tell from the labels if I was going to have to trade something in my pack. Although, I never did like the meals with seafood in them. Eggs were easy as I usually had a cheese spread, peanut butter, or small dessert that I could trade for a salsa so I could choke it down.

Korean food rations are made more for a stationary army that constantly defends its borders and has really short supply lines. They are closer to normal food, so taste better but have other drawbacks (for example the instant ramen the Koreans have is basically junk food, tastes good but it is all carbs and sodium). US and British ones are designed for a more mobile war with, super compact and pack a lot of nutrients for their size and weight, with really long expiration dates, so expect them to look bad and taste like chemicals, but probably make more sense for battlefields where you have to carry a lot of stuff.
@박희수-t8d2 жыл бұрын
Korea also uses preserved food that is not cooked mainly for mobility, but in my experience, it was a long time ago than the video, but I felt a headache when I ate it.It's a rule to add hot water, but it's a good product to add lukewarm water, but it's a taste and texture that I don't want to call food If a soldier is in front of you, you want to shoot.

Never tried the new rations, but I had more than enough experience with the old 24 hr ration packs. It had several menu's, and was split into two types; Summer and Winter. The winter one required more water. The better one was the winter ration pack as it had chocolate and was overall better. Everyone had their favourite item and I liked the biscuits brown and biscuits fruit (which was basically a garibaldi biscuit). I never bothered with the tea and coffee. The juice flavour could strip the paint from a tank and the butterscotch dumplings was absolutely gipping. The main meals were okay, there was Kendall mint cake that existed for those who hated their teeth and there was small tins of cheese and meat paste I think it was. I just remember the tins. Also inside were some waterproof matches and toilet roll for those that desired to severely punish their rear ends- which you ended up doing anyway when you ate the ration pack...

I don't know about other countries, but where I'm from, I've been told that they taste far better when heated up. So I've been on a good number of outfield training deployments and I've made it a point to make my platoon gather up to eat the rations heated up in mess tins filled with water. My voluntary sacrifice each deployment was just 2 sets of mess tins which get their bottoms burnt black from all the solid fuel heating. Most of my guys were simply too lazy to heat it up on their own and always thought the rations tasted bad, but after heating them up properly, they changed their minds. An unexpected effect was the fostering of camaraderie at the meal site, which the guys actually look forward to each day. And such an effect has a nice habit of spreading to neighbouring units. Of course there are certain menus everybody hates, and in my case, it was always the spicy curry rice/noodle type packets. Tons of boxes of those get returned to base in pristine condition because it never leaves the store vehicle. Dessert packets were always highly sought after.
@Naeron662 жыл бұрын
They do taste better, I was in the Army back in the days of tinned rations and if you had time to cook things it was far better. The breakfast spam-like meat was nice if you had time to fry it in a mess tin for example.
