Even that we get from the people of the neighboring malay peninsula, who came to cohabit with our earliest settlers, way way back before the Spanish conquest. When we see our natives who come down from the mountains, they are short, dark skinned, curly haired, and flat nosed.. most probably our early inhabitants came from the African continent. Philippines was never homogenous, unlike other asian countries whose populace still look generic. Our general populace, even though dominantly malay looking, look diverse because of foreign blood mixes. I myself is filipino, spanish, chinese and portuguese mixed.. i don't look very asian but i'm totally a filipino being born here.

Fun fact (this is just an observation I've had growing up) : In the Philippines, if an actor/actress stars in a movie/teleserye and they receive high praise for it, they will immediately be casted in multiple movies/teleseryes. If it's a love story and the couple is very likable, they will immediately shipped and often casted together as a couple in movies/teleseryes. I don't know why they do this. I mean, you don't see Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt in a movie more than one or two times.

Yeah Filipinos have a super diverse look. But I also understand why foreigners think about stereotypical features/looks. They just tend to think that because many Filo tend to have certain features. I’ve seen many foreigners of different countries react to PH celebs and they always point out how they look mixed. I don’t necessarily blame them because in all honesty the PH looks varies from looking Hispanic, to Chinese, etc. I think it’s just normal to want to categorize certain looks based on certain countries

Enrique Gil and Alden Richards are what you'd call mestizo. Mestizo is a Spanish word for having Spanish and Filipino blood. But mestizo can also be Filipinos with Caucasian blood. Daniel and Coco are more of the typical pure [for the lack of better word] Filipino look having the typical darker skin. Most Filipinos actually look more Hispanic than oriental. I lived in Thailand and many foreigners I've met thought I'm Mexican and I'm not even tall. But many Latinos are not really that tall like the one in 13 Reasons Why. And many actors in Hollywood have played Latino roles in movies and TV.
