If he came out as a woman, then that would be him as a woman. But he's coming out AS a specific human, not himself in his true form. Jimin is not a race, he is not a gender, he is himself, an unique individual. What this disturbed person is doing is trying to assimilate another person's identity, not gaining his own real identity. He's not becoming his true self, he's trying to steal someone else's persona. I AM Korean, and I will step in and fully defend ANYONE'S right to be Korean if that is how they identify. But that means it is on their shoulders to actually assimilate Korean culture, or at least attempt to take in as much culture as they can. But he has not done ANY of that, but rather, taken what little he's seen on TV and online, and assumed a fetishist persona, not a real Korean persona, and is now trying to pass that off as reality and the entirety of that culture. It would be the same as if someone tried to take an anime character, did plastic surgery to look like that character, learned a few poorly pronounced words and phrases, and then tried to pass themselves off as Japanese, but more than that, THAT particular anime character. But this is worse, because Jimin IS a real person, he DOES exist, and he is his own person, and shouldn't have to worry about someone trying to steal his identity and the possibilities of them doing things that could cause HIM and his career troubles in the future. That is where the disconnect lies. He's not becoming his TRUE self, he's fetishizing the culture, he's picking out his favorite stereotypical bits of the culture, and then trying to represent himself AS the culture, embodying that culture, and as a shining beacon and example FOR THAT CULTURE. If ALL he was doing was coming out non-binary and identifying with the Korean culture, most people wouldn't have a problem. Possibly consider him in need of psychological help, but people would generally not bat an eye or give it much attention. But ATTENTION is clearly what he craves, since he can't leave it at that. He has to push until he hits all the buzzwords and triggers, so he gets the maximum amount of exposure and attention he can get. Even when it garners all the negative attention, because then, he can play the victim card and claim to be bullied. Bullying is when people are tormenting you simply for being you. Bullying is NOT when people are disagreeing with you, and trying to say that what you are choosing to do is offensive. The ones being bullied are the ones being offended, but are told to shut up and get a sense of humor. And this is something REAL Koreans, real Asians, have experienced all day, every day, in any nation outside of their original home nations. If he wants to identify as Korean, then he should be the first to realize that, and try to be as sensitive to offensive shit as he can be, not just blindly bulldozing his own way, and then telling people to shut up and accept it.

This guy is so manipulative. He keeps referring to his hate comments as relating to him being non-binary or coming out in any way. That's manipulative because no, people hate him and give him hate because of the Jimin/Korean part. Most people wouldn't care or have an opinion if he just came out as non-binary. It's LITERALLY coming out as "korean jimin" that's the issue, but he never addresses this. He only uses key words like activism and freedom over his non-binary identity. His words in the first video aren't wrong, but he literally takes them out of context and lying about exactly what the issue is.

@@ghostbotmellow706 But here's my concern... the issue with Oli is that they say that they're Korean. THAT'S what upsets people. But they make it sound like them being non-binary that is the issue. which is CLEARLY NOT. From what I can see and hear. HE is using the non-binary gender as a SHEILD for himself. (And I feel that it's a VERY big disrespect to ACTUAL non-Binary people) Cause people, who only see these posts on the surface, would empathize with a person who is being attacked for their gender. WAY more than the REAL issue, which is a British person saying he's Korean. Or even practically saying he is someone else who actually exists, aka Jimin. He wants to be known as Jimin- Not the name... the PERSON. And THAT is What's concerning about Oli.

They are very delusional and are like the most extreme case of cultural appropriation. If they seriously and truly believed this than are they learning about Korea like about its history? No they don’t even kno the language with their level being elementary level at best and never improving. Their energy is all focused at basically just K-pop like the style and such, and so is doing it like it’s just another fashion trend which is like by definition cultural appropriation. They try and hide from the criticism using non binary and such as a shield but that has nothing to do with it. They need to spend that money on some serious therapy instead of plastic surgery.

As a non-binary person, I was inclined to believe Oli London when they came out as nb. But the more I hear about the they/them/korean/jimin stuff, and how warped Oli's sense of identity is, the more I feel disgusted. It feels like Oli's making fun of my community, and adopting a struggle (that I and many other nb people have experienced) in a way that is disrespectful. Oli is intertwining coming out as non-binary with something disturbing, so that when people hear about it, they are inclined to dismiss it as "crazy" and "weird" and "gross". It feels invalidating, the way that Oli is taking something so real and personal to me and many others and warping/twisting it into some spectacle.

Honestly though, they have a knack for degrading their own credibility with their own doings. They say they like a culture and then appropriate it to the extent its almost cringey. They say they are part of LGBT+ community and then add korean jimin as a pronoun which makes it look like they are mocking the community and the concept of pride month altogether. I wonder how their family must feel seeing them trying to deny everthing they are and claiming to be something they aren't. I hope they get the help they need to be a better person in general. Also, them being like that even shades other communities to be viewed in bad light by general public. I wish they'd just stop.

How can you be authentically yourself when you copy another? Imitation is different from inspiration. Him using his coming out story to justify copying Jimin and identifying as Jimin is disturbing and dangerous. You can identify as a certain species all you want but you can never become another specific person entirely. That is identity theft. It's scary to think thay he really thinks this is ok and then influence people to do the same. If he wants to be respected for who he is, he inturn needs to respect other people too especially Jimin's individuality and privacy. There is always a line. I hope that Hybe takes action before it goes too far.

I think everyone missed the point. Everything Oli said as it relates to being non-binary makes sense, but the negativity they’re referring to is because he “came out as Korean” and the Jimin pronouns. If they had simply come out as non-binary with they/them pronouns then I’ll bet it wouldn’t have had the same response. There are two HUGE inherent problems here : identifying with another ethnicity/race is not the same as gender. Look at Rachel Dolezal pretending to be black then saying she identified as black when she was caught (even although she’s white). Being white affords an ethnic and cultural privilege and identifying with elements of another ethnicity or race (even if you truly love and appreciate those aspect) dismissed the historic and current racism, prejudice and barriers people went through to get to the place where Rachel or Oli can just appropriate it. Second, for non-binary and trans people, saying that you can identify as a dog or a unicorn… to truly believe that’s the same thing as the complexity of what people experience as non- binary or trans… it’s insulting, cruel, and dangerous to think that way. Yes, there are people who identify as a dog, but it’s more like a kink. They are not naked with a collar 24/7, changing their legal identity, not speaking ever again, etc. It feels awful to even compare the two in this example. The last big point to make here is that Oli makes money with the most views, comments, and engagements he can get. They may be extremely smart in keeping everyone talking about him. (Edited for spelling error and to fix pronouns)

@SonderDAze X that generally has to do with coming from multiple races or those people just don't identify as being a part of race because of how politicized it is. race, btw, is not genetic- it's a social construct that was made to classify and disadvantage people who looked "different" or were from a certain place. oli is a white britisher. if he were to have identified as race-fluid, maybe it wouldn't have such a big deal but he specifically wants to be korean, an asian, which is inappropriate and insults different cultures that way. and more than korean, he wants to be jimin. that is a the main issue. it's still appropriation if he wants to "be korean" but the internet would eventually forget him as a crazy white guy with an asian wannabe fetish. by specifically targeting jimin, he's always keeping himself in the spotlight and basically insulting his own body. oli needs to use his money for psychiatric help, not make-me-a-korean surgery.
